‘VisionQuest’ Just Confirmed Its Exact Place on the MCU Timeline, and It Lines up with Spider-Man’s Biggest Movie Yet

Marvel Television has spent much of this year carefully mapping out how its Disney+ offerings connect to the larger cinematic universe, and that connective tissue keeps getting more specific as release dates approach. With so many projects converging around the same stretch of MCU continuity, fans have been eager to pin down exactly where each new entry fits.

That puzzle now includes ‘VisionQuest,’ the upcoming series continuing the Westview trilogy that began with ‘WandaVision.’ Following Paul Bettany’s White Vision as he searches for identity and purpose years after the events of ‘WandaVision,’ the show arrives at a moment when Marvel’s television and film slates are converging more tightly than usual.

According to new confirmation from showrunner Terry Matalas, ‘VisionQuest’ takes place around the same time as ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day,’ Marvel’s massive summer blockbuster that recently crossed $2,400,000,000 at the worldwide box office. That placement puts the series among the furthest-along entries on the MCU timeline currently confirmed, positioning it just ahead of December’s ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’

Speaking with Polygon, Matalas explained that years have passed since ‘WandaVision,’ and that the show is roughly set to align with the timeframe of ‘Brand New Day.’ Since ‘Brand New Day’ has been confirmed to take place in 2028, some four years after the events of ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ that would put ‘VisionQuest’ in the same general window, making it one of the latest-set stories in the franchise ahead of the upcoming Avengers crossover.

That timing places ‘VisionQuest’ in fairly exclusive company. Alongside ‘Brand New Day,’ the series now sits at the furthest point along the MCU timeline confirmed so far, positioned directly ahead of ‘Avengers: Doomsday’s’ theatrical release this December.

Matalas has also previously teased that ‘VisionQuest’ will offer a heartbreaking new perspective on Iron Man’s death, adding another layer of emotional weight to a show already built around themes of identity, memory, and what it means to move forward after profound loss. Given Vision’s own complicated history tied to Tony Stark’s legacy through JARVIS and the Mind Stone, that connection feels especially fitting for a series set this deep into the timeline.

It remains unclear whether ‘VisionQuest’ will directly intersect with the events of ‘Brand New Day’ or simply share a similar timeframe without any narrative crossover. Reports have suggested the show’s positioning could be setting up broader Phase Six developments ahead of the Avengers crossover, though Marvel has not confirmed any direct connective tissue between the two projects.

Marvel has increasingly used timeline placement as a storytelling tool in itself, giving fans context for how disparate corners of the franchise relate to one another even when their plots don’t directly intersect. Placing ‘VisionQuest’ alongside one of the year’s biggest theatrical releases signals that Marvel Television continues to view its Disney+ offerings as meaningfully woven into the larger cinematic universe, rather than existing in a separate, lower-stakes sandbox.

With ‘Brand New Day’ already having redefined expectations for what a Spider-Man film can achieve commercially, aligning ‘VisionQuest’ with that same moment in the timeline adds a layer of scale and urgency to Vision’s own story, even as the show remains grounded in more intimate, character-driven territory.

With ‘VisionQuest’ premiering on Disney+ on October 14, fans now have a clearer sense of where the series fits within the broader shape of Phase Six. Whether that timeline placement ends up mattering for the plot itself, or simply provides useful context for longtime viewers tracking the franchise’s chronology, remains to be seen once the show actually arrives.
