‘Visionquest’s’ First Look Just Dropped, and Fans Can’t Believe It Came Before a Full Trailer
Marvel Studios has built an entire trilogy of Disney+ shows around one deceptively simple question: what happens to an AI after it loses everything it once loved. That story began with ‘WandaVision’ and continued through ‘Agatha All Along,’ and now it’s finally reaching its conclusion with a series fans have been waiting years to see in motion.
Kevin Feige barely acknowledged the upcoming show during Marvel’s San Diego Comic-Con presentation, keeping the studio’s television slate almost entirely out of the spotlight while focusing on ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ and ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’ That silence left fans hungry for literally any concrete details about what’s actually coming.
That hunger got fed this week, though not in the way anyone expected. Rather than a trailer or official stills, the first real look at ‘VisionQuest‘ arrived through a pair of Funko Pop figures, giving fans their earliest glimpse yet at both Paul Bettany’s Vision and James Spader’s return as Ultron.
Each figure splits its character down the middle, showing both a robotic form and a human counterpart side by side. Vision’s design largely mirrors his appearance from ‘WandaVision,’ though his human half is shown holding a newspaper titled “Vision Today,” hinting at some kind of stylized inner-world storyline unfolding inside his own consciousness.
Ultron’s figure is where things get genuinely surprising. His robotic form closely matches his final appearance in ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron,’ but his human counterpart, inspired by Spader himself, sports a beard, glasses, and an eccentric wardrobe that immediately raises questions about how the character will actually be portrayed on screen. It marks the first publicly available image of Spader’s version of the character since his MCU debut over a decade ago.
Marvel has kept this particular reveal locked down for months, with only a lucky few catching glimpses of concept material at in-person events before the wider fan base was stuck relying on secondhand descriptions. The Funko unveiling finally gave everyone else an official image to work from.
As for that long-awaited trailer, fans will have to wait a little longer. Marvel is expected to release the first footage from ‘VisionQuest’ next month during the studio’s D23 presentation, which would line up with the show’s broader fall 2026 rollout on Disney+.
The series comes from showrunner Terry Matalas, with Bettany and Spader leading a cast that also includes Todd Stashwick, Ruaridh Mollica, and T’Nia Miller. Bettany has previously teased just how unusual Vision’s internal world will be, describing it as more cluttered than fans might expect, given how many AI personifications the character has apparently been saving and copying inside his own mind.
That kind of existential, identity-focused storytelling would track with what fans have already seen from Vision’s arc across the MCU, though some have voiced concern that the show’s emphasis on personhood and consciousness might come at the expense of more straightforward action, particularly when it comes to Ultron’s long-awaited comeback.
Whether ‘VisionQuest’ ultimately leans into introspection or spectacle, this early merchandise reveal has already succeeded in getting fans talking well ahead of any official marketing push. With a full trailer reportedly just weeks away, the wait for real answers is finally starting to feel short.
