A former bodyguard of Michael Jackson has brought back old discussions about one of the singer’s most talked-about style choices: the tape or covering he sometimes wore across his nose.

The comments come at a time when public interest in Jackson has increased again, partly because of the recent biopic Michael and renewed media attention around legal claims involving people connected to the singer, as reported in the original coverage and interviews cited by Metro.

The bodyguard, Matt Fiddes, a British martial arts instructor who worked with Jackson for many years, shared his thoughts in interviews and podcast appearances. He spoke about how Jackson carefully managed his image in public and often made deliberate choices about how he appeared in front of cameras.

For decades, fans noticed Jackson wearing different coverings, including masks, sunglasses, gloves, and sometimes tape on his nose. These details led to endless speculation. Some people believed it was connected to health issues or cosmetic surgery. Others thought it was about privacy and avoiding attention.

But according to Fiddes, there was another reason behind it. He claimed Jackson understood media attention very well and knew how to control it.

Fiddes said, “He knew how to manipulate the media. He knew exactly how to get the front pages.” He explained that Jackson would sometimes plan his public appearance carefully depending on where he was and how he wanted to be seen.

He also said Jackson liked to keep people guessing. According to him, the singer often wanted to stay in the headlines, even when he was not promoting new music. Fiddes described it as part of Jackson’s strategy to remain the most talked-about person in the world.

In another comment, Fiddes said, “He would say he wanted his life to be the greatest mystery on Earth.” He suggested that Jackson used small visual details, like tape or masks, to create curiosity and keep public attention focused on him.

The discussion came up again recently on the Elite podcast hosted by Lee Matthews. During the conversation, Fiddes repeated his belief that Jackson was very aware of his public image and how it affected his fame. He argued that Jackson used these moments to stay relevant and keep the public interested in him, not just his music.

He added, “The guy was a genius. He knew how to reinvent himself.”

Fiddes also responded to questions about whether the nose tape was part of a bigger plan. He said it was intentional and not accidental, suggesting that Jackson sometimes used simple items like tape or accessories to create a specific look or story around himself.

According to him, “It was all staged. He wanted people to think his nose was falling off.” He also claimed it was just allergy tape, used in a way that added to the mystery around the singer’s appearance.

The topic continues to divide opinions. Some believe Jackson carefully shaped his image as part of his artistry and fame strategy. Others think the explanations are speculation and that his appearance changes had more personal or medical reasons.

The renewed conversation shows how Michael Jackson’s life and image still attract attention years after his death, with fans and commentators continuing to debate what was real and what was part of the myth surrounding him.
