What’s Next for ‘Interview With the Vampire’ After Season 3?
AMC’s Chief Content Officer and AMC Studios President Dan McDermott revealed the future of Interview with the Vampire is still open and may continue beyond its current third season arc. The discussion focused on how the show could move forward after the current story, which is centered on The Vampire Lestat.
Season 3 shifts the spotlight more heavily onto Lestat, played by Sam Reid, adapting material from Anne Rice’s novel The Vampire Lestat. In this part of the story, Lestat takes a much bigger role after being less central in season 2. The series also changes tone and setting, with Lestat becoming a public figure and even a rock star on tour, expanding the supernatural world into a more modern and performance-driven direction.
The current season has received very strong reactions. It has a 100% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and an 89% audience approval rating. Despite the change in focus and title, the response suggests that viewers are still highly engaged with the series.
AMC has acknowledged that the title shift and narrative change did not hurt performance. McDermott said in the interview, “To say it’s significantly overperforming for us would be accurate.” He did not provide specific viewing numbers, but he made clear that the network is satisfied with the results so far.
When asked about what comes next, McDermott explained that AMC is actively discussing how to continue the story beyond season 3. He mentioned possible future adaptations from Anne Rice’s wider Vampire Chronicles series, including The Queen of the Damned and The Tale of the Body Thief. These books would naturally extend the story of Lestat while also bringing back key characters.
McDermott said, “The natural next books in the cycle that could continue the story would be The Queen of the Damned and The Tale of the Body Thief. We’re discussing right now if that is something that we want to do. We’re also looking at all the books in the canon and figuring out how to continue the Louis Lestat and Molloy and Armand story for another two seasons at least.”

This suggests that AMC is not planning to end the franchise soon. Instead, the goal appears to be continuing the same core character relationships across multiple seasons, even as the source material shifts focus between different novels.
For context, The Queen of the Damned is the third book in Anne Rice’s series and follows events involving Lestat and the ancient vampire Akasha. The character has already appeared in the current show, which makes a future adaptation a natural next step. Meanwhile, The Tale of the Body Thief continues Lestat’s story in a different direction, focusing more on identity and personal struggle.
The report also makes it clear that key characters like Louis, played by Jacob Anderson, and Daniel Molloy, played by Eric Bogosian, are expected to remain part of the story going forward. Their continued presence suggests the show will keep its ensemble structure even as it follows Lestat’s journey more closely.
Overall, AMC’s comments point to a long-term plan rather than a fixed ending. While season 3 wraps up its current arc, the creative team is already looking ahead at how to extend the story for at least two more seasons, depending on audience interest and creative direction.
