‘The Wheel of Time’ Superfan Buys Times Square Billboard to Protest Show’s Cancelation: “So Here We Are Instead”

Fans of The Wheel of Time are not ready to let their favorite show fade away quietly. After Prime Video announced it wouldn’t renew the fantasy series for a fourth season, some very determined viewers decided to take action, and they’re doing it in a big way, with billboards lighting up Times Square.
One fan even paid out of pocket to rent a billboard space, using it to send a bold message. The sign read, “I could have spent this money on my Amazon subscription but they cancelled my fave show so here we are instead (AGAIN).” Another group of fans from Brazil raised money online to get their own ad up in the same famous spot, and showrunner Rafe Judkins took notice on social media.

The show, based on the beloved books by Robert Jordan, had a rocky start with its first two seasons. Many longtime readers were upset by how much the show changed from the original story. But season 3 seemed to get things back on track, earning praise from both new viewers and hardcore fans. That made the cancelation even more frustrating for many.
According to Deadline, the decision to cancel wasn’t an easy one. Prime Video liked the series, but in the end, the budget just didn’t work out. Brandon Sanderson, who finished writing The Wheel of Time book series after Jordan’s death, shared his own opinion on the news. “I do think it’s a shame, as while I had my problems with the show, it had a fanbase who deserved better than a cancelation after the best season,” he said. “I won’t miss being largely ignored; they wanted my name on it for legitimacy, but not to involve me in any meaningful way.”
Judkins, the show’s creator, pushed back on the idea that the show didn’t have enough viewers. He said it had strong numbers around the world, and he’s still holding on to a bit of hope. He pointed to what happened with The Expanse, a sci-fi show that was dropped by SYFY and later saved by Amazon. He’s hoping another streamer could pick up The Wheel of Time too.
That’s exactly what fans are hoping for. Over 163,000 people have already signed a petition to save the show. The people behind the campaign say the full story deserves to be told. One organizer said fans have already helped raise enough money to hit multiple billboard fundraising goals. “Everyone is simply blown away with the generosity shown by fans of The Wheel of Time!” they said. “This is a true grassroots effort, with support pouring in from around the world.”
They believe Judkins’ recent comments are proof that fan efforts can still make a difference. But for now, the fate of the show is up in the air. Sony Pictures Television owns the rights and hasn’t given any signs that they’re looking for a new home for the series. Some fans are hoping Apple TV+ might be interested, but reports from TVLine suggest the show isn’t even being shopped around at this time.
The message from fans remains loud and clear: “Help save The Wheel of Time.”
