When & Where Was Anakin Skywalker Born?
We all know that Anakin Skywalker is the single most important character in the entire Star Wars Skywalker Saga because the entire storyline starts with him and his rise from a young boy to a Jedi Knight and his fall from a Jedi Knight to a Sith Lord. Of course, the fact that everything started with Anakin means that it all started from the day he was born. So, when and where was Anakin Skywalker born?
Anakin Skywalker was born on 41 BBY, nine years before Qui-Gon Jinn found him on Tatooine. However, while he grew up on Tatooine, Anakin wasn’t born on that planet. That’s because Shmi gave birth to Anakin on an unknown planet before she was sold off to the Hutts of Tatooine.
While it may be true that Anakin grew up on Tatooine, the truth is that he wasn’t even born there. As such, he originally came from an unknown planet before he came to Tatooine as a baby. Nevertheless, we all know that he spent much of his first nine years on Tatooine after his birth. So, that said, let’s talk more about this topic.
When was Anakin born?
Undoubtedly, the most important character in the mainline Star Wars movie is Anakin Skywalker because everything started with his story. Qui-Gon Jinn found him on Tatooine when he was still just a slave boy. That was when Jinn won him in a game of chance and brought him to the Jedi Temple to be trained. Anakin eventually became a powerful Jedi Knight because Qui-Gon wanted him to be trained because he was the Chosen One prophesized to bring balance back to the Force.
However, we also know that Anakin’s fall to the dark side of the Force launched the entire original trilogy. As Darth Vader, he was responsible for countless atrocities in the entire galaxy during the reign of the Empire. But Anakin eventually redeemed himself thanks to his son, Luke Skywalker, as he fulfilled his duties as the Chosen One by destroying Emperor Palpatine and dying soon after that.
Of course, it all started on the day that Anakin was born. Although we don’t know exactly when he was born, we know the details behind his birth. It happened when Shmi Skywalker served as a slave to an unknown master.
While she was still younger, Shmi and her family were captured by pirates and enslaved. They were eventually sold off to slavery, as Shmi was separated from her parents when she was bought separately. Shortly after that, she got pregnant with Anakin, as it is widely believed that the Midi-chlorians were influenced by the Force to impregnate her and bring the Chosen One to life.
This happened on 41 BBY. That’s because we know that Anakin was just nine years old during the events of ‘Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace’ when he first met Qui-Gon Jinn. And we all know that the events of ‘The Phantom Menace’ took place on 32 BBY. So, logically, Anakin was born on 41 BBY.
Where was Anakin born?
We know that Anakin Skywalker was found by Qui-Gon Jinn on Tatooine when he was just nine years old. He also talked like he lived his entire life on Tatooine as he said that he had never been to outer space. But the truth is that he was never born on Tatooine and had been to outer space at least once in his life.
That’s because, according to logs in the ‘Darth Vader: Sith Lord’ reference book, Shmi was on a different planet before Gardulla the Hutt of Tatooine bought her. She was a slave working for a different master on a planet that was never mentioned. And that was when she became pregnant with Anakin.
Shmi gave birth to Anakin on that same unknown planet. That is why Anakin was never born on Tatooine. However, we don’t know the exact details behind this unknown planet because all we know is that Shmi lived there with an infant Anakin when she was still serving a different master.
After that, Shmi and Anakin were sold off to Gardulla the Hutt of Tatooine, and that was when they had to make the journey to Tatooine. In that regard, Anakin had been to space already. But he was still just an infant then and was far too young to remember a world outside of Tatooine.
Anakin grew up on Tatooine as a slave owned by Gardulla. That is why Anakin considers Tatooine as his homeworld even though he was never born on this planet. Shmi and Anakin had to serve a new master in the form of a Toydarian named Watto when Gardulla lost them to him on a bet. Anakin eventually got his freedom at the age of nine years old when Qui-Gon Jinn won him from Watto in a bet.
