Since the news broke about Hugh Jackman aka Wolverine joining the cast of Deadpool 3 everyone has been wondering who will be joining next. In 2014 Channing Tatum signed on a 21st Century Fox project for a standalone Gambit movie (X-Men universe). Unfortunately, that project never saw the light of day but now everyone is wondering who is Channing Tatum playing in Deadpool 3. And is it Gambit?

What happened to Channing Tatum as Gambit?
The Foxcatcher star and his longtime colleague and producer Reid Carolin had an idea they wanted to pitch to 21st Century Fox. It was going to be a standalone movie that follows the X-Men character Gambit. It was imagined similarly to Deadpool in its raunchiness and humor.
While the 21st Century Fox team liked the idea, they wouldn’t fully approve if it’s Carolin or Tatum directing. Tatum said in a Variety interview, “They wanted anybody but us, essentially, because we had never directed anything.”. Tatum really fell in love with the project so he decided that they will let someone else direct the movie.
The movie release date was set for March 2020, but sometime after, in 2017 Fox and Disney announced that they were in the process of a merger. Disney was going to take over key assets from 21st Century Fox. This means their film and television studios, all of their networks, and stakes in different companies.
Unfortunately, after the merger, the Gambit movie was one of the first projects that were canceled. This left Tatum feeling devastated and after it, he didn’t want to think about other potential Marvel movies that came his way. He said to Variety, “Once Gambit went away, I was so traumatized… I shut off my Marvel machine. I haven’t been able to see any of the movies. I loved that character. It was just too sad. It was like losing a friend because I was so ready to play him. “.
What gave us a little bit of hope was the interview with the Dark Phoenix producer, Simon Kinberg, from 2019 where he says that Disney is reviewing many different projects and that Gambit maybe has a chance of happening despite the initial cancelation.
Who is Channing Tatum playing in Deadpool 3?
The latest project Ryan Reynolds and Channing Tatum worked on was from last year. Tatum made a cameo appearance in the movie Free Guy starring Reynolds. This is where they would’ve possibly reconnected and where Reynolds mentioned the idea of joining the cast of Deadpool 3.
For now, we have little information on what is actually going to happen, so we will be watching the news closely in hopes of something being revealed soon. The latest rumor included that Reynolds wanted Tatum to join the cast even if he doesn’t end up playing the role of Gambit.

She recently played a role in the newest David O. Russel movie called Amsterdam. Starring so many big names like Christian Bale, Margot Robbie, John-David Washington, Anya-Taylor Joy, Rami Malek, and so on.
This rumor hasn’t been confirmed so far but we will probably know soon if that is happening. We are sure that Swift would be more than happy to join the Deadpool cast, we also found that there won’t be any clashes in the filming schedule that reportedly starts January 2023. While Swift is supposed to start her tour in the U.S. in March.
