X-Men ’97 Season 2 now has an official release date, with Disney+ confirming that the new season will premiere on July 1. Alongside the date announcement, a debut trailer was also released, giving fans their first full look at the next chapter of the animated revival.

The information comes from Disney+ promotional material and coverage tied to the new trailer rollout. The footage confirms major story developments, including time travel, new characters, and a major shift in Wolverine’s situation after the events of Season 1.

Season 1 ended with a major shock moment where Magneto ripped the adamantium out of Wolverine’s body. That scene was widely noted as a direct reference to the classic 1993 Fatal Attractions comic storyline. At that point, Wolverine appeared heavily injured and in a weakened state.

However, the new trailer shows a different situation. Wolverine appears alive and fully functional again, including his adamantium claws being restored. The trailer does not explain how this happens, but it clearly signals that Logan has recovered in some way before or during the events of Season 2.

The trailer also confirms that Apocalypse will be the main antagonist this season. He is shown across multiple time periods, suggesting a storyline involving large-scale time disruption. The X-Men are scattered throughout time and must find a way back to their original timeline.

One of the key plot points shown is the team’s effort to return to the 1990s. Characters like Bishop and Forge are shown working to repair the timeline and bring the X-Men back home. Apocalypse is seen saying, “I must strike them at their most vulnerable, the 1990s!” which directly connects his plan to that decade.

The story appears to draw inspiration from the Age of Apocalypse comic arc, where reality is drastically altered after Apocalypse rises to power. In the trailer, different versions of the future and ancient past are shown, including scenes set in Ancient Egypt, where Apocalypse originally becomes En Sabah Nur.

The trailer begins on a more emotional note, showing Rogue still dealing with the loss of Gambit after his sacrifice in Season 1. That moment continues to influence the tone of the new season, with the team clearly still affected by recent events.

Another surprise in the trailer is a brief appearance of Deadpool. However, it is later clarified that this is actually Morph using Deadpool’s form rather than the real character. Even so, the moment suggests more shape-shifting and identity-based confusion will appear in the season.

According to the official Disney+ synopsis, Season 2 follows the X-Men as they are split across different eras of time. While they try to find their way back, the 1990s Earth they left behind is changing. New threats and growing mutant hostility rise in their absence, creating additional conflict for their return.

The season will feature nine episodes and continues with the same main voice cast, including returning actors for Professor X, Magneto, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, Wolverine, Rogue, and Beast.

Production credits confirm the series is executive produced by Brad Winderbaum and Kevin Feige, among others, with direction and writing handled by returning creative teams from Season 1.

With its July 1 release date now locked in, Season 2 of X-Men ’97 is set to continue its time-spanning storyline with higher stakes, a revived Wolverine, and Apocalypse at the center of the conflict.
