‘X-Men’ Cast’s Marvel Contracts Reportedly Go Way Beyond a Single Movie, and Storm Might Be First to Cross Over

Marvel Studios finally pulled back the curtain on its new mutant team during D23 this month, ending years of speculation with a stacked cast reveal that included Sadie Sink, Kit Connor, and several other rising stars. For a franchise fans have waited nearly a decade to see folded into the MCU proper, the announcement felt like the studio was finally ready to treat the X-Men with the same scale as its biggest tentpoles.

That ambition, it turns out, may extend well beyond the team’s own standalone film. Marvel has spent years carefully rebuilding its mutant roster from scratch after inheriting the characters through the Disney and Fox merger, previously only borrowing legacy actors like Patrick Stewart and Kelsey Grammer for brief cameo appearances rather than committing to a full new ensemble.

Now, a new report suggests the studio’s ambitions for this cast run much deeper than a single 2028 release. According to Puck News’ Matt Belloni, speaking on The Town podcast, the contracts signed by the new X-Men cast extend well beyond their own team-up film, reportedly including appearances across multiple other Marvel projects. Belloni specifically named actress Sadie Sink among those whose deals reportedly cover crossover appearances.

Belloni went further, pointing to specific projects where fans might see these mutant stars pop up first. He said Storm is expected to appear in ‘Black Panther 3,’ while suggesting the broader cast will show up in both ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars,’ along with a probable appearance in a future ‘Ghost Rider’ film.

That kind of cross-pollination marks a notable shift in how Marvel Studios appears to be building out its mutant corner of the universe. Rather than confining the X-Men to a single self-contained trilogy the way the franchise operated under 20th Century Fox, the studio seems to be treating this ensemble the way it’s historically handled its core Avengers roster, threading individual characters through multiple franchises simultaneously.

Belloni also noted that Marvel’s overall release schedule remains comparatively thin right now, with only one Marvel movie set for next year, describing the current pace as something of a ramp-up period. He suggested audiences could expect at least two Marvel releases per year once the studio moves past 2028, assuming everything stays on track.

The new team announced at D23 includes Sink as Jean Grey, Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor X, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, and Maya Boyd as Storm, alongside Adam Driver in an as-yet-unspecified role. The film itself, directed by Jake Schreier, is currently set for release on May 5, 2028.

Casting for the ensemble has remained in flux even after the D23 reveal, with the search for Beast reportedly still ongoing and various names continuing to circulate for the role. That level of continued speculation only underscores just how much attention Marvel is paying to getting this particular roster right, especially if the studio is already planning to lean on these actors across multiple future films.

If these contract details hold up, it would mark one of the more ambitious integration efforts Marvel Studios has attempted since introducing the mutants into its shared universe, effectively treating the X-Men less like a standalone franchise and more like a fully embedded piece of its ongoing Multiverse Saga.
