Zack Snyder’s DCEU failed due to its darker tone, inconsistent storytelling, and divisive creative choices until it was ultimately replaced by Gunn’s & Safran’s DCU. While some appreciated his vision, others found it too grim and disconnected from the iconic characters. Still, despite DCEU being mostly bad, according to general consensus it did give rise to some of the most popular superhero movies in the last few years.

Notably, ‘Wonder Woman,’ was a massive hit and opened a lot of possibilities for the character in the DCEU, soon after, the sequel followed, and released during COVID-19 it still managed to be somewhat successful but nowhere near the first installment.

Still, Snyder originally had very different plans for the ‘Wonder Woman’ movie, in a project dubbed ‘Wonder Woman 1854.’ In an interview with Empire Magazine to promote his upcoming film, ‘Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scavenger,’ the director also opened up about his unmade ‘Wonder Woman’ film. The general idea was to present Diana in a completely different environment.

The idea of that was an early riff we were doing: once Wonder Woman left the island in search of Ares, what happened to her in her different incarnations? My idea for it was that she would travel around the world looking for Ares and she would go to every place where there was conflict.

Snyder explained how Diana would take on many lovers, until eventually replacing them due to their mortality until she meets Pine’s Steve Trevor.

On those battlefields she found these lovers, warriors, and they would age out because she is immortal. They would be her lover for ten years or they might die in battle, and it was probably sad for a lot of the guys because they would see her starting to be nice to the next young soldier and be like, ‘Oh, I’m being replaced.’ But all the guys that she had with her were those loyal warriors she found on the battlefields all over the world.

The movie never moved past the idea, it was never a screenplay and never something that was in active development at the time.

It was never a screenplay, but we talked about it so much that it kind of had its own life.

Even after DCEU was officially scrapped and abandoned, both Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins talked about how the third ‘Wonder Woman’ installment is being made, however, this turned out to be false. Gunn & Safran do have plans for Diana’s lore but without her. During the announcement of their first phase, ‘Chapter 1: Gods & Monsters’ they announced that a live-action TV show called ‘Paradise Lost’ is in the making. The show is supposed to focus on Themiscyra before Diana’s time and it should be a Game Of Thrones-like series.
