Rapper Rod Wave found himself in police custody in Atlanta, Georgia, just hours after receiving his first Grammy nomination.

The 27-year-old artist, whose real name is Rodarius Green, was arrested on Friday, November 7, by the Atlanta Police Department.

According to Fulton County public records, he was booked on four separate charges, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a felony, reckless driving, and two counts of possession of a controlled substance. He was released the next day after posting bond.

Wave’s legal team, attorneys Drew Findling, Marissa Goldberg, and Zack Findling, told TMZ that the arrest was unlawful. “Rod Wave was unjustly profiled and unlawfully arrested in Atlanta,” they said in a joint statement.

The lawyers also criticized the police unit involved in the arrest, claiming it’s known for aggressive policing. “The arresting officer belongs to the Atlanta Police Department’s controversial Crime Suppression Unit — a group known for its aggressive tactics and emphasis on high arrest numbers rather than genuine public safety,” the statement read.

They added that the incident was driven by what they described as a “quota-based” system and a violation of the rapper’s rights.

Attorney Drew Findling confirmed to TMZ that his client appeared in court and was released after paying an $8,000 bond.

This isn’t the first time the Florida-born rapper has had run-ins with the law. Public records show that he was arrested earlier this year, once in May on multiple charges including aggravated assault, and again in June for battery.

The arrest came on the same day Wave earned his first-ever Grammy nomination. He was recognized in the category of Best Song Written for Visual Media for his track “Sinners,” which appears in the film Sinners.
