Disney Removes Diversity and DEI Language From 2025 Annual Report
Disney has dropped “diversity” and “DEI” from its latest corporate report, signaling a shift in language around workplace initiatives.
The company’s 2025 annual report, reviewed by Business Insider, did not mention “diversity” for the first time since 2019. The terms “DEI” (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) and “D&I” were also absent.
The move follows changes to Disney’s DEI programs earlier this year and the launch of a “Global Belonging Week” event in October. The event emphasized terms like “inclusion” and “belonging” instead of “diversity” and “DEI,” reflecting the sensitivity of these phrases in the current political climate.
Disney’s 10-K filing, which details the company’s finances, risks, and executive pay, included the word “equity” 130 times, but only in financial contexts.
The report did reference “inclusive” in a section on human resources, noting efforts to make the workplace “more engaging and inclusive” and highlighting new leadership and coaching programs for employees.
Industry observers note that Disney is not alone. Workplace strategist Mita Mallick, author of Reimagine Inclusion, told Business Insider that many companies are moving away from terms like DEI. “It’s the reality of doing business,” she said. Research from Gravity Research found that mentions of DEI dropped 98% year-over-year in 2025 among Fortune 100 companies.
The shift suggests a broader trend where companies focus on terms like “belonging” and “culture” rather than language that can be perceived as politically charged.
