Sophie Turner Channels Iconic Lara Croft in First Look at Live-Action ‘Tomb Raider’ Series
Sophie Turner is officially stepping into the role of Lara Croft in the new live-action Tomb Raider series, and Amazon MGM Studios just gave fans their first look at the actress in full Croft mode.
Turner, best known for her role in Game of Thrones, channels the iconic adventurer from the original 1996 video game, complete with the character’s signature teal tank top, shorts, braided ponytail, and red-tinted sunglasses. The image marks the start of production on the highly anticipated Prime Video series.
The show is created by Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge, though plot details are still under wraps. Some insight into the series’ direction has come from the cast announcements.

Sigourney Weaver joins as Evelyn Wallis, a new character described as a “mysterious, high-flying woman who is keen to exploit Lara’s talents.” Jason Isaacs, known for Harry Potter and White Lotus, will play Atlas DeMornay, Lara’s uncle, while Martin Bobb-Semple is cast as Zip, Croft’s tech support friend. Bill Paterson will appear as Winston, Croft’s butler, and Celia Imrie plays Francine, a British Museum figure focused on fundraising.
Turner takes over the role from previous live-action portrayals by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander. Vikander had been set for a sequel to her 2018 film, but production changes after Amazon’s acquisition of MGM left that project uncertain. As Turner steps into the role, the new series promises to bring a fresh take on Lara Croft for a modern audience.
The release date for the Tomb Raider series has not yet been announced, and additional cast members include Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, and August Wittgenstein.
Seeing Sophie Turner as Lara Croft is exciting for fans of both the video game and previous film adaptations. The first-look image captures the adventurous spirit and iconic style of the character perfectly. I’m curious to see how Waller-Bridge’s vision will reshape Croft for a new generation.
