Johnny Depp has unexpectedly been pulled into the growing Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni drama, and it all traces back to private text messages sent by Ryan Reynolds.

According to newly revealed legal documents obtained by TMZ, Ryan was texting with his talent agent, Warren Zavala, back in August 2024. The messages show the two talking openly about the behind-the-scenes tension surrounding the movie It Ends With Us and the public relations battle they believed was unfolding.

At the time, there was a lot of anxiety about how the story around the film was being shaped online. Zavala expressed frustration with Baldoni, writing that “It’s this guy’s incredible ego. It feels like he’s laying a trap if her truth surfaces, while promoting a narrative digitally.” The concern was that Baldoni was controlling the public story in a way that could hurt Blake Lively.

Ryan responded by suggesting the strategy wouldn’t last. He replied, “Yeah. But honestly, someone is just gonna tell a journalist the real deal and it’s gonna blow up in his face.” Ryan seemed confident that the truth would eventually come out and undo whatever was happening behind the scenes.

Zavala wasn’t so sure. He answered, “One would think. But the truth does become muddled sometimes. That’s why I’m concerned if he’s laying a trap. I hope this fraud s* weasel is exposed. I just want to protect our downside. The movie working is everything. Let’s see if the noise subsides.” The texts show clear fear that the situation could spiral and damage everyone involved.

At one point, Zavala sent Ryan a link to a news story about Blake and Justin fighting over the final cut of the film. He told Ryan, “This is all spin. I think we let it burn.” That message suggests they were debating whether to stay quiet or step in as rumors grew louder.

That’s when Johnny Depp’s name came up. Ryan replied, “How’d that work out for Depp??” He was clearly referencing the very public legal battle between Depp and Amber Heard, which turned into a massive media circus and dominated headlines for months.

Zavala answered bluntly, “Not well. Cratered both of them ultimately.” The comparison shows the fear that the Lively-Baldoni conflict could lead to the same kind of reputational damage, where no one truly wins.

The tone of the texts then becomes even more heated. Zavala allegedly called Baldoni an egotistical s** weasel with a god complex, while Ryan reportedly referred to Baldoni as a human rounding error. The insults make it clear that this wasn’t just a professional disagreement, but something that had turned deeply personal behind closed doors.

Since then, the situation between Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni has only escalated. What began as reported creative differences over a Colleen Hoover book adaptation has turned into a full-blown legal and public relations war. Many now believe the drama has matched, or even surpassed, the chaos of the Depp-Heard saga.

The Depp comparison is especially interesting because his story didn’t end with the trial. While his career took a major hit at first, Depp has slowly been making a comeback. He starred in the French film Jeanne du Barry, landed a role in the upcoming thriller Day Drinker with Penélope Cruz, and has appeared at major events like Cannes and the San Sebastian Film Festival. He has also launched an international art exhibit, signaling a return to public life.

That kind of rebound may be what Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively are quietly hoping for if the current legal situation doesn’t go their way.

It Ends With Us, released in 2024, is a romantic drama based on Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel. The story follows a woman navigating a painful and abusive relationship. Blake Lively stars as Lily Bloom, Justin Baldoni plays Ryle Kincaid, and Brandon Sklenar appears as Atlas Corrigan, Lily’s childhood love interest.
