Christina Applegate Shares the Real Story Behind Her Mermaid Look at the Married With Children Reunion
Christina Applegate recently showed that she still knows how to have fun with her public image, even while dealing with serious health challenges. After reuniting with her Married with Children castmates in Los Angeles on January 28, she opened up about how she put together the look that had fans talking.
The event took place at The Wiltern and brought together the Bundy family for a live show called An Evening with The Bundys. Nearly 30 years after the sitcom ended, Applegate appeared onstage with Ed O’Neill, Katey Sagal, and David Faustino. The night mixed jokes, memories, and plenty of nostalgia.
Shortly after the reunion, Applegate shared a post on social media thanking the people who helped her get ready. According to her own Instagram post, she asked her makeup artist for a “mermaid” vibe and felt she got exactly what she wanted. She joked that while professionals handled her makeup and outfit, a friend helped with hair length and some light photo touch-ups. She described the night as beyond fun and made it clear how much she needed the laughter.
She also made sure to credit David Faustino for putting the whole evening together. In her post, she thanked him for making it happen and said the group was long overdue for a night like that. Faustino, who played Bud Bundy, later spoke about their close friendship in interviews promoting the event.
Before the reunion, Faustino told reporters that he and Applegate talk often. He said her personality has not changed at all since her multiple sclerosis diagnosis. According to him, she is still very sarcastic, very dry, and leans heavily on humor to get through hard days. Those comments came from press interviews conducted ahead of the show.
The reunion also had a deeper purpose. The event raised money for Race to Erase MS, a foundation that funds research into the disease. Applegate personally chose the charity. Since announcing her diagnosis in 2021, she has been open about how MS affects her daily life. On a podcast appearance, she previously said that living with the condition is really, really hard and that pain and fatigue often keep her at home.
During the live show, she used her cane as part of her jokes, drawing laughs from the audience and showing that her comedic timing is still sharp. Many fans noted that she seemed relaxed and confident onstage, even with the physical limits she now faces.
Right now, Applegate is focusing on work that fits her health needs. She continues to co-host the “MeSsy” podcast with Jamie-Lynn Sigler, who also lives with MS. She is also preparing to release a memoir titled You With the Sad Eyes in March. According to early descriptions, the book will cover her acting career, personal struggles, and life after her diagnosis.
