It has been a busy start to the year for fans of HBO and HBO Max. Even though 2026 just began, we already have plenty of news about which shows are sticking around and which ones are unfortunately saying goodbye.

According to recent reports, 2026 is looking much better than last year. While 2025 kicked off with the sad news that the comedy series The Franchise was being canceled after only one season, this year has already delivered three major renewals in just the first few weeks.

The most recent bit of good news arrived on January 30, 2026, when HBO confirmed that It’s Florida, Man will return for a third season. This late-night comedy has become a hit by taking bizarre real-life news stories from Florida and having actors act them out based on interviews with the actual people involved.

Earlier in January, the medical drama The Pitt also got a big boost. The show stars Noah Wyle and has been so popular on HBO Max that the network renewed it for a third season on January 7.

On that same day, fans of Real Time with Bill Maher got some security for the future. The long-running talk show was renewed for two more seasons, which means it will stay on the air through 2028.

Looking back at the end of 2025, there were several other exciting updates. The hockey drama Heated Rivalry was picked up for a second season in mid-December. The show tells the story of two rival players, Shane and Ilya, who fall in love while competing at the highest level of professional sports.

The intense drama series Rage was also renewed for a second season in early December. This show follows five different women who find themselves in high-pressure situations that lead to a shared breaking point.

Big news also came for fans of the Game of Thrones universe in late 2025. House of the Dragon was officially renewed for a fourth season, though the network noted that this will be the final chapter for the Targaryen saga. Meanwhile, the newer spinoff A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms was renewed for a second season before its first season even aired.

Other shows that recently got the green light for more episodes include Mark Ruffalo’s crime drama Task and the dark comedy The Chair Company starring Tim Robinson. Both were renewed for second seasons in November.

Rachel Sennott’s comedy I Love LA was also picked up for a second season around that same time. The series follows a group of friends trying to make it in Los Angeles and has quickly become a standout for the network.
