Claire Foy Opens up About a Health Battle With Parasites That Went Unnoticed for Years
Claire Foy is known around the world for playing Queen Elizabeth II on The Crown, but her real life has included a health struggle that went unnoticed for years. She recently opened up about it during an appearance on the Table Manners podcast, hosted by Jessie and Lenni Ware.
While chatting on the show, Foy explained that she once dealt with a serious stomach issue that left her confused and frustrated. She said she was always eating but kept losing weight. No matter how much food she had, she still felt hungry all the time. Something clearly was not right, but she did not understand what was happening to her body.
Doctors eventually discovered the cause. Foy revealed that she had internal parasites living inside her system. She told the podcast hosts that she believes she picked them up while traveling in Morocco years earlier. What made the situation worse was how long they stayed hidden. According to her doctors, the parasites had been there for at least five years.
She said the moment she found out was disturbing and hard to process. The doctors also told her that the parasites usually come in pairs, which made the news even harder to hear. Foy described the whole experience as rank and disgusting while speaking on the podcast.
Instead of taking strong antibiotics, Foy chose a more natural way to heal. She followed a strict recovery diet and made one big lifestyle change. She completely gave up caffeine. At the time, that was no small task. She admitted she used to drink around 15 cups of tea a day along with two coffees. Cutting that out was tough, and she said the withdrawal was quite a mission.
The interview came as Foy is enjoying a strong moment in her career. According to recent reviews, her latest film H Is for Hawk has been praised by critics. The movie, released in January, stars Foy as writer and naturalist Helen Macdonald and follows her journey through grief after the death of her father. The film has already picked up awards and attention, including a BAFTA nomination for Outstanding British Film.
Foy is also staying busy with upcoming projects. She is set to appear in The Magic Faraway Tree, a fantasy film based on the Enid Blyton books, alongside Andrew Garfield and Rebecca Ferguson.
Even with a full schedule, Foy’s story on Table Manners gave fans a rare look at how much she went through behind the scenes. It was a reminder that even polished performances can hide very real struggles off camera.
