Harrison Ford has always treated acting like a craft, much like the carpentry work he did before becoming a movie star. He sees a film set as a place to get your hands dirty and figure things out. “Success comes from grinding through takes until a scene feels right,” he has said. This practical, blue-collar approach is clear in his work as Indiana Jones, a hero who’s far from polished and perfect.

Indiana Jones was created by George Lucas and Steven Spielberg as a curious scholar rather than a soldier. He’s driven by a love of history and archaeology, not power or glory. Even in the first few minutes of Raiders of the Lost Ark, it’s clear that Indy doesn’t care about the supernatural—it’s the artifacts themselves that fascinate him.

Ford has said one of his favorite lines in the series comes from that first film. When Marion Ravenwood tries to help him clean his wounds, he quips that it’s not the years that have worn him down, “but the mileage.” That line has come to define the character over forty years, showing a man constantly pushed to his limits but still going.

The idea of “mileage” is explored further in The Last Crusade, where a young Indiana is played by River Phoenix, showing that same daring spirit existed from the start. Most recently, Ford returned as Indy in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, proving the character’s love for discovery hasn’t faded with age.

Ford is staying busy outside of Indiana Jones, too. He stars in the third season of the Apple TV+ comedy Shrinking, which premiered on January 28. He plays Dr. Paul Rhodes, a therapist living with Parkinson’s disease, and he recently shared the screen with Michael J. Fox in what he called a “very special and fulfilling experience.”

Ford has also entered the Marvel Cinematic Universe, making his debut as President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross. He appears in Captain America: Brave New World, where his character transforms into the Red Hulk, adding another major role to his career.

Harrison Ford’s career shows a mix of hard work, bold choices, and unforgettable characters. From the fedora of Indiana Jones to a role in the MCU, he continues to challenge himself and entertain audiences around the world.

Do you think Harrison Ford should retire the fedora after all his recent projects, or do you want to see him take on even more roles in the Marvel universe? Share your thoughts in the comments.
