Hollywood Star Questions Charli XCX About Not Having Kids and Fans Are Furious
Charli XCX has been open about her complicated feelings around motherhood. During a recent episode of the SmartLess podcast with Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes, the singer talked about her life, her future, and her thoughts on having kids.
The conversation took a funny turn when Bateman tried to give Charli advice about finding the right person to have children with, not realizing she was already married.
Charli, whose real name is Charlotte Aitchison, explained that she doesn’t want kids right now. She said her feelings might change in the future, but for now, she’s happy with her life as it is. “I’d rather regret not having kids than have them and regret it later,” she agreed with Sean Hayes.
She even joked about the idea of motherhood, saying she enjoys imagining it and thinks naming a child sounds like the most exciting part. But if that’s the only appealing part, she said, it’s probably a sign that she isn’t ready for the real thing. When Bateman suggested she might feel differently when she meets the right guy, Charli replied simply, “Well, I’m married.”
Charli tied the knot with George Daniel, the drummer for The 1975, in July 2025. Bateman laughed and teased that maybe she’d have kids with her next husband, and Charli took the joke in stride, saying she saw it coming.
This isn’t the first time Charli has spoken about the pressure women face to become mothers. She has said it can feel strange seeing friends have kids and worrying that it makes her less of a woman if she doesn’t. But she also fights against the idea that she must conform to society’s expectations.
Right now, Charli is focused on her career. Her mockumentary film The Moment hit theaters on February 6 through A24. She produced the movie herself and stars as a fictionalized version of her pop-star life, dealing with the pressures of fame. The cast also includes Alexander Skarsgård, Kylie Jenner, and Rachel Sennott.
She’s also staying active in music, releasing a full soundtrack album for Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of Wuthering Heights on February 13. On top of that, she has several upcoming acting roles, including co-writing and starring in the anti-romantic comedy Erupcja, about a woman stranded in Poland after a volcanic eruption.
