Lily Collins is set to take on one of Hollywood’s most famous roles. She will portray Audrey Hepburn in a new film that explores the making of the 1961 classic Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

According to the official announcement, the project is inspired by Sam Wasson’s book Fifth Avenue, 5 A.M.. The story will focus on how the beloved film came together, both on and off the set. Collins will also work behind the scenes as a producer.

The script is being written by Alena Smith, known for creating the Apple TV+ series Dickinson. A director has not yet been announced.

The original film was based on the novella by Truman Capote. It followed Holly Golightly, a New York socialite who forms a bond with a writer living in her building. The new movie will dig into the drama behind the scenes. Capote reportedly wanted Marilyn Monroe for the lead role and felt that Paramount Pictures “double crossed” him by casting Hepburn instead. The film will also show stories from production, including a near accident during the famous opening scene outside Tiffany & Co. on Fifth Avenue.

Several real-life figures connected to the film will appear as characters, including director Blake Edwards and costume designer Edith Head. Casting for those roles has not yet been revealed.

Collins shared her excitement on Instagram, writing, It’s with almost 10 years of development and a lifetime of admiration and adoration for Audrey that I’m finally able share this. Honored and ecstatic don’t begin to express how I feel…

The film is backed by Imagine Entertainment, with producers including Brian Grazer. Other producers and executive producers are attached through several production companies.

Collins is widely known for her lead role in Netflix’s Emily in Paris, which has been renewed for a sixth season. She has also appeared in Rules Don’t Apply and Mank.

This project brings new attention to a film that shaped pop culture and fashion for decades. It will not retell the original story but instead look at how the movie was created and the tension behind it.

Casting Collins as Hepburn is a bold move. Hepburn remains an icon, and fans will have high expectations. If done right, this film could offer a fresh look at a classic that still matters today. What do you think about Lily Collins stepping into this role? Share your thoughts in the comments.
