Tom Cruise has built a career on pushing limits, performing his own stunts, and taking risks that few actors would dare. During an interview with Graham Norton, Cruise revealed that his love for adventure started young.

“As a kid, I would do flips off the house into the snow and race bicycles over dangerous ditches,” he said, explaining that those early thrills set the stage for a lifetime of adrenaline. Over the years, his passion for fast cars, motorcycles, climbing, and extreme sports only grew.

Even now, in his 60s, Cruise continues to do as many of his own stunts as possible. He said, “During the acting process, I aim to bring everything, you know, physically and emotionally, to a character,” noting that decades of training let filmmakers put cameras in spots most actors couldn’t reach.

His daring nature isn’t limited to movie sets. In 1996, while on vacation with his then-wife, Nicole Kidman, and their children aboard the superyacht Talitha, Cruise noticed another vessel on fire and starting to sink.

Without hesitation, he jumped into action. He used a smaller boat to reach the survivors, including French newspaper mogul Jacques Lejeune and his family, and brought them aboard the Talitha until a patrol boat arrived to take them to safety.

At the time, Cruise’s publicist commented that he “did what any decent person would do” and added that if they were ever in trouble, they’d want the actor nearby. The yacht itself, the Talitha, has its own history, built in 1929 as a gunboat during World War II before becoming a luxury vessel for high-profile figures.

Cruise shows no signs of slowing down professionally. He recently wrapped production on Digger, a dark comedy directed by four-time Oscar winner Alejandro G. Iñárritu. Cruise plays Digger Rockwell, a man racing to save humanity from a disaster he caused. The film also stars Sandra Hüller, Jesse Plemons, and John Goodman and is set to release on October 2.

Beyond this, Cruise continues to be involved in major franchises. After the huge success of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning in May 2025, reports say he will reunite with director Christopher McQuarrie for a World War II thriller called Broadsword.

Fans are also excited about Edge of Tomorrow 2, which is back in development under his new multi-year deal with Warner Bros. Discovery. While his plans to film a movie in actual space with NASA are reportedly on hold, Cruise’s focus on pushing the boundaries of cinema remains unchanged.
