Harrison Ford Delivers Heartfelt Moment Accepting Sag-Aftra Life Achievement Award
Harrison Ford received a rare standing ovation on Sunday, March 1, as he accepted the SAG-AFTRA Life Achievement Award at the Shrine Auditorium. The 83-year-old star, known for his calm and stoic screen presence, grew emotional while speaking to a room full of his peers.
Woody Harrelson presented the award, calling Ford a timeless American treasure. He added with a laugh that Ford believes staying busy is the key to staying young. It’s a little early, isn’t it? Ford joked as he opened his speech, It’s a little weird to be getting a lifetime achievement award at the halfway point of my career.
Ford reflected on his six-decade career, saying that storytelling gave him purpose and that acting allowed him to find his identity through different characters. While we’re all at different stages of our lives and careers in this room, we all share something fundamental, he said, emphasizing the connection between artists through creativity and imagination.

He also honored the people who helped him before he became a household name. Ford shared that he spent fifteen years balancing acting with carpentry and paid tribute to his late manager Pat McQueeney and casting director Fred Roos. They’re no longer with us, but it feels important that I think of them now. I feel them here tonight. They would be happy for me, he said.
Even with two of the biggest franchises in history, Star Wars and Indiana Jones, Ford shows no signs of slowing down. He stars in the third season of the Apple TV+ comedy Shrinking, which premiered on January 28. His role as the grumpy but lovable therapist Paul Rhoades earned him his first Emmy nomination last year, and new episodes continue through April.
Ford also made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut as President Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross in Captain America: Brave New World. Fans have also been following him on Paramount+ in the Yellowstone prequel 1923, which concluded its second and final season in April 2025.
Despite his decades of work, this Life Achievement Award is Ford’s first honor from the SAG-AFTRA guild, either competitive or honorary, following a nomination last year for his comedic work.
While he has never won a competitive Oscar, his influence on film and culture remains unmatched. On stage, Ford said that the greatest reward has always been the work itself and the people he got to share it with. Harrison Ford’s speech reminded everyone why he remains one of Hollywood’s most respected and enduring actors.
