Michael J. Fox Touches Hearts With Emotional Actor Awards 2026 Appearance
Michael J. Fox had the entire room on its feet at the 32nd Annual Actor Awards on Sunday, March 1. The actor appeared during the show’s opening I Am an Actor segment and was met with a powerful 15-second standing ovation at the Shrine Auditorium. He was introduced by Kate Hudson, and the crowd did not hold back its love.
Waving and flashing a peace sign, the 64-year-old actor spoke with warmth, humor, and honesty about his life and career. He talked about moving from Canada to Los Angeles as a young actor and shared a memory about a teacher who once doubted his future.
“Fox, you’re not going to be cute forever,” the teacher told him. Fox said his reply was simple. “Maybe just long enough, sir.” The line earned loud laughter from the audience. Fox also opened up about his early struggles in Los Angeles, including moments when money was so tight that he went dumpster diving.
Things changed when he landed his breakout role on Family Ties, which he said led to the most important part of his life. That was where he met his wife, Tracy Pollan. On stage, he credited her with giving him their four children.
“Sometimes I like to remind them that if it wasn’t for acting, they wouldn’t be here,” he joked, as the camera showed his son Sam, who joined him at the event. He ended his speech with a line that brought the moment full circle.
“I’m Michael J. Fox. I’m a dad. And I’m an actor.” The crowd responded with another wave of applause. Fox stepped away from full-time acting in 2020 as Parkinson’s disease progressed, but he has continued to make select appearances.
He currently guest stars on the third season of the Apple TV+ comedy Shrinking, which premiered in late January. On the show, he plays a patient named Gerry who forms a meaningful and funny bond with a therapist played by Harrison Ford. The character also lives with Parkinson’s.

He has stayed busy in other ways, too. Fox recently voiced a character in the animated sequel Zootopia 2, which was released in late 2025. He also continues to lead the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
According to the foundation, more than $160 million in new grants were recently awarded to support research efforts, with Fox saying progress toward a cure is moving faster than ever. Despite his achievements, Fox has said he is not focused on legacy.
In a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, he shared that his main goal is simple. “To live my best life,” he said, explaining that he wants to spend his time and energy on the people he loves. He added that as long as he can keep writing his story until the end, he feels lucky.
His appearance at the Actor Awards showed just how deeply respected he remains in Hollywood. Whether he is acting, speaking, or advocating for research, Fox continues to inspire audiences with his strength, humor, and optimism.
