The ‘Worst Character’ Anya Taylor-Joy Ever Played Will Surprise You
Anya Taylor-Joy is opening up about one of her past roles, and her answer might surprise fans.
During a recent appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, the actress spoke about her career and the characters she has played.
While looking back, she pointed to her role in Peaky Blinders. In the show, she played Gina Gray, a character known for creating problems and tension. Taylor-Joy admitted that this might be the worst character she has ever played because of how unlikable she is.
Gina Gray, whose maiden name is Nelson, is the former wife of Michael Gray and the mother of Laurence Gray. The two met in the United States and started a relationship before moving back to Birmingham. In the story, Gina pushes Michael to take control of the Shelby family business. She often tries to influence his decisions and turn him against Tommy Shelby. After a major conflict, both Gina and Michael are pushed out of the family and told not to return. She plays a key antagonist role in the later seasons of the show.
Even though Taylor-Joy does not like the character, her family has a different opinion. She shared that her relatives in Argentina are fans of the series and actually enjoy Gina. Speaking about this, she said, “I’m always impressed with which characters they gravitate to.”
The role placed her opposite Tommy Shelby, played by Cillian Murphy, making her one of the more disliked figures in the story.
The interview was also used to talk about her upcoming work. Taylor-Joy is returning as the voice of Princess Peach in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, which is expected to release on April 1.
At the same time, fans of Peaky Blinders are following the latest chapter of the story with Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, which continues the world of the series.
Sometimes the characters they dislike the most are the ones that stand out to viewers. It shows how strong the performance was. What do you think about Gina Gray?
