Anne Hathaway is gracing the April issue of Harper’s Bazaar with a bold, leather-clad photoshoot, showing off a mix of elegance and edge.

Photographed by Inez & Vinoodh and styled by Beat Bolliger, Hathaway wears sleek leather pieces from designers like Versace, Jitrois, and Saint Laurent, paired with high heels and statement jewelry. The shoot captures her as both glamorous and fearless, a fitting reflection of her career today.

In the accompanying interview with Leah Chernikoff, Hathaway talks candidly about her journey as an actress, parent, and now a 43-year-old woman finding balance in life. She opens up about the changes in her life since becoming a mother of two boys with her husband Adam Shulman.

“Before, there was this focus that was really uncompromising and uninterrupted,” Hathaway says. “And I just can’t tell you anymore what life is like without kids, but kids interrupt you all the time.” She explains that she now seeks harmony rather than perfect balance, letting her work and personal life coexist without stress.

Hathaway also reflects on her return to her iconic role as Andy Sachs in The Devil Wears Prada 2. She notes how both she and the world have grown since the first film’s release 20 years ago. “The characters are obviously 20 years along in their careers and at very different places, and the world of media is in a very different place,” Hathaway says. Director David Frankel adds, “Andy has had a career in journalism that mirrors a lot of people’s experiences in journalism these days.”

The sequel involved intense preparation for Hathaway, including filming at real fashion shows during Milan Fashion Week. Meryl Streep, who returns as Miranda Priestly, praised Hathaway’s dedication, noting her care for models and the accuracy of the scenes. Hathaway even endured a fall on set during filming, immediately assuring the crew she was fine while privately joking, “Oh no. I’m news.”

Hathaway also talks about her intense preparation for other projects, including the psychological thriller Mother Mary directed by David Lowery, and the military epic Alone at Dawn by Ron Howard. “Maybe other people would have been able to do it in a shorter amount of time or not have to train as hard, but I knew it would hurt so much more if I hadn’t just left it all on the floor,” she says. Her co-star Michaela Coel notes Hathaway’s ability to channel her characters’ pain into empathy.

Looking back, Hathaway recalls her early life in Millburn, New Jersey, as the only girl among three children. She began acting in local theater while attending high school, eventually landing roles on TV and in The Princess Diaries. “I would go to school, and then I would get out at 2:22, and I would sprint to the train station,” she remembers. “Acting opened doors to me that nothing else did.”

Hathaway’s Harper’s Bazaar cover and feature combine a powerful photoshoot with an honest, reflective interview. She is portrayed as a woman who has grown with her career and life, embracing challenges and striving for harmony.
