Jonah Hill Opens up on Kanye West’s Controversial Jewish Posts and Calls Them ‘Bizarre’
Jonah Hill recently opened up about a strange situation involving Ye, the rapper formerly known as Kanye West. During an appearance on The Zane Lowe Show on April 6, Hill discussed a 2023 Instagram post where Ye said that watching Hill in 21 Jump Street made him “like Jewish people again.” The actor called the post a bizarre public attempt at reconciliation.
Hill explained that the gesture felt unusual but said he still has compassion for Ye despite the rapper’s past antisemitic comments. “I think he is probably the greatest artist ever to live,” Hill said. “He’s a genius, and the stuff with the hate stuff sucks. What are you going to say? It sucks, no matter who you are, to hear that.” He made it clear that he separates Ye’s art from the harmful statements that have shadowed his career.
The actor reflected on how strange it was to be singled out as a reason for Ye’s supposed change of heart. “I felt that he did this bizarre public thing to kind of make up, like, ‘It’s all good cause I love Jonah,’” Hill said.
He suggested that it wasn’t really an apology but more of a personal shout-out. Hill hopes that, over time, people involved can find a way to heal from the controversy. These comments come in the context of Ye’s recent troubling actions. The rapper has faced backlash for inflammatory posts, offensive songs, and provocative merchandise.
In January, Ye took out a full-page apology in The Wall Street Journal, saying, “I regret and am deeply mortified by my actions in that state… I am not a Nazi or an antisemite. I love Jewish people.” Still, public skepticism remains, and his recent headline performance at a London festival sparked new protests from community leaders.
While navigating all of this public drama, Hill has been focusing on his own career. This Friday, April 10, his dark comedy Outcome will premiere on Apple TV+. Hill not only directed and co-wrote the film, but he also stars in it as a crisis lawyer helping a blackmailed Hollywood actor played by Keanu Reeves.
The movie features a star-studded cast, including Cameron Diaz, Matt Bomer, and David Spade. Hill has described the film as a commentary on the pressures of living in a social media-driven world. Hill isn’t slowing down after this release. He is already working on his next directorial project, Cut Off, which is set for a summer theater release.
The film stars Kristen Wiig and tells the story of two wealthy siblings who are forced to find work after losing their inheritance. In addition, Hill continues to run his production company, Strong Baby, which is developing several new series for streaming platforms.
Despite the controversies surrounding Ye, Hill has managed to stay focused on his own work and use his platform to advocate for the things he believes in. As he returns to the spotlight with new films and projects, Hill is making it clear that his career is about creativity, collaboration, and keeping a sense of integrity in Hollywood.
