A new video clip from Vanity Fair featuring the cast of Saturday Night Live has sparked a huge debate online after viewers noticed big edits to a story shared by Chloe Fineman. The clip comes from the magazine’s game show series, where cast members answer questions about each other.

Alongside Fineman were Mikey Day, Sarah Sherman, Ashley Padilla, Jane Wickline, and James Austin Johnson. In the current version on Vanity Fair’s YouTube channel, Fineman talks about a summer camp job she lost when she was sixteen. She says she was fired for playing a prank on a boy who had been bothering her.

“I was fired as a camp counselor,” Fineman said in the clip. “I pantsed a boy. He would lift my shirt all the time. It was a different time. He would be like, ‘Hey, could I have a hug?’ And then I’d go to hug him, like a dick.”

She explained that during a group hike, she distracted the boy by pointing out a bird before pulling down his pants. While this version of the video left viewers surprised, social media users quickly noticed that some details from the original upload were removed.

In the first version, Fineman had said the child was six years old and described what happened after the prank. Ashley Padilla’s reaction, “Oh, honey, I think you’re on a list somewhere,” was also part of the original clip.

Removing these details has changed how viewers interpret the story, and many are debating whether the edits were made after public criticism or at the request of a representative.

Even with the edits, Fineman’s story is still generating discussion about what is acceptable when sharing stories from the past. Some viewers argue it’s just a teenage prank, while others believe the removed details change the context entirely. Representatives for Vanity Fair have not explained why the video was altered.

Outside of this controversy, Fineman remains busy on Saturday Night Live, now in her sixth season. The rest of the cast members in the video are also pursuing individual projects. Mikey Day continues hosting Netflix’s popular baking show Is It Cake?, while James Austin Johnson frequently appears in late-night political sketches.

The Vanity Fair clip shows how small changes in a story can create big reactions online. As Fineman and her colleagues keep working in comedy and entertainment, this incident highlights the ways social media can amplify even edited moments.
