Original ‘Baywatch’ Star Erika Eleniak, 56, Lands Major Reboot Comeback
Erika Eleniak is officially coming back to Baywatch, bringing one of the original stars back to the famous beach series. According to reports about the new Fox reboot, the actress will return as Shauni McClain, the role that helped make her a fan favorite during the early years of the show.
Eleniak appeared in the first two seasons of Baywatch before leaving during season three. Now, many years later, her character is returning with a very different life story. In the new version of the series, Shauni is no longer a young lifeguard learning the ropes. Reports say she is now a member of the Santa Monica City Council.
Her return to the beach happens during the annual Beach Games, where she helps the current lifeguard team in a major competition against the Coast Guard. Her comeback has already created excitement among longtime viewers who remember the original cast. Shauni was one of the most recognizable characters from the early days of Baywatch, and many fans have wanted to see her return for years.
Eleniak is not the only familiar face coming back. Reports also say David Chokachi will return as Cody Madison. That means the reboot is mixing old favorites with a brand-new generation of characters.
The new Baywatch series is being led by Stephen Amell. He plays an older Hobie Buchannon, the son of Mitch Buchannon, the character made famous in the original series. In this updated story, Hobie is now a captain and trying to continue his family legacy.
His life changes when a daughter he never knew about suddenly appears. Her name is Charlie, and she wants to join the lifeguard team herself. That family storyline is expected to be one of the main parts of the new show.
The reboot is being run by showrunner Matt Nix, and production is already underway on beaches around Los Angeles. Reports say Fox has ordered 12 episodes for the first season. Stephen Amell has had a busy year. He recently dealt with the cancellation of Suits LA after one season, but he has quickly moved into this new project as the leading face of Baywatch.
The cast also includes Shay Mitchell, Noah Beck, and Hassie Harrison. Jessica Belkin, who plays Charlie, is also set to appear in the upcoming Legally Blonde prequel series Elle later this year.
David Chokachi’s returning character, Cody Madison, will reportedly run a local beachside bar called The Shoreline. The location is expected to become a hangout spot for the younger lifeguards.
The new Baywatch is expected to premiere during the 2026-2027 television season. Producers seem focused on honoring the original show while also creating something fresh for new viewers.
The original Baywatch became a worldwide hit and was watched by millions around the globe. Because of that history, bringing back stars like Erika Eleniak is a major move. With classic names returning, a new family story, and a modern cast, the reboot is already building strong interest before its first episode even airs.
