Emily Blunt (43) Drenched in 300+ Pearls and Knife-Sharp Couture Steals the Spotlight at ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ Premiere
Emily Blunt made a strong return to the spotlight at the New York premiere of The Devil Wears Prada 2, and her fashion choice quickly became one of the main talking points of the night. Known for playing Emily Charlton, a character obsessed with style and perfection, Blunt stayed true to that image with a bold and dramatic red carpet look.
She appeared in a couture gown from Schiaparelli’s spring 2026 collection. The dress had a structured top made from raffia and a large layered skirt that gave it a strong shape. Speaking to Vogue, Blunt explained why the moment mattered.
“New York as a city is a spectacle in itself, and so this film, so it had to be the home for our premiere,” she said. She also shared how the dress was chosen. “My stylist Jessica Paster sent it to me from the couture runway, and knew it would be the one,” she said. “And if you’re going to go big for a premiere, well, I’m not sure there’s one more appropriate for this dress than The Devil Wears Prada premiere.”
The gown was designed by Daniel Roseberry, someone Blunt has worked with before. He also created her Oscars look when she was nominated for her role in Oppenheimer. Blunt spoke openly about her respect for him. “I absolutely worship what Daniel does,” she said. “He’s such a bold and inspiring artist. I drool over his creations, so to be wearing one that I thought was so jaw-dropping when I first clapped eyes on it, is truly an honor.”

Her jewelry also stood out. Instead of focusing on diamonds, she chose pearls from Mikimoto. The necklace alone included 156 pearls, mixed with rose gold and small diamond details.
She also wore bracelets that added over 200 more pearls to the look. “Jessica and I both had the same reaction the moment we saw the choker—it was clearly the one,” Blunt said. “It complemented the Schiaparelli gown in such a natural, elegant way with the pearls and delicate diamond petals. It just felt completely right.”
She also explained her personal connection to this style. “I’ve always been drawn to pearls, they have such a timeless feel,” she said. “I’ve long admired Mikimoto for its extraordinary heritage. As the originator of cultured pearls, there’s a real sense of history and artistry behind each piece, which makes wearing their jewelry feel incredibly meaningful.”
The film itself brings back major names from the original, including Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, and Stanley Tucci. New cast members like Justin Theroux and Kenneth Branagh also join the sequel. The movie is directed by David Frankel and written by Aline Brosh McKenna. It follows Andy Sachs returning to the fashion world as Miranda Priestly deals with changes in media, while Emily moves into a powerful role in the luxury business.
The sequel premiered in New York on April 20, and will be released in U.S. cinemas on May 1 by 20th Century Studios.
This premiere showed exactly what fans expect from this franchise: strong fashion, big personalities, and attention to detail. Blunt clearly understood the assignment and used the moment to connect her real-life image with her character. It worked well and brought attention back to the film.
