Netflix has officially confirmed the title of its upcoming live-action Scooby-Doo series. The show will be called Scooby-Doo: Origins, with production now underway in Atlanta, according to information released by the streamer.

The series takes a new approach to the long-running franchise created by Hanna-Barbera. It reimagines the well-known group of teen detectives and their talking Great Dane in a modern setting, with a story that focuses on their early days together.

The plot is set during the characters’ final summer at camp. Two longtime friends, Shaggy and Daphne, find themselves pulled into a disturbing mystery involving a lost Great Dane puppy. The animal is linked to claims of a supernatural death, which pushes the situation into darker territory.

As the investigation develops, they are joined by Velma, who is portrayed as practical and science-driven, and Freddy, a new figure in town. The group starts working together as the case becomes more complex, with personal secrets and hidden tensions coming into play.

The cast includes Tanner Hagen as Shaggy, Mckenna Grace as Daphne, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma, and Maxwell Jenkins as Freddy. Actor Paul Walter Hauser is also part of the project, but his role has not been revealed.

The Scooby-Doo franchise has a long history dating back to 1969. It began with the animated series Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! created by Joe Ruby and Ken Spears for Hanna-Barbera. The original show introduced the familiar team of mystery solvers: Fred, Daphne, Velma, Shaggy, and Scooby-Doo.

That original series first aired on CBS before moving to ABC, where multiple versions continued for years. Over time, the franchise expanded into one of the most recognizable animated properties in television history.

Behind the new adaptation, Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg are serving as writers, showrunners, and executive producers. Greg Berlanti is also among the executive producers, along with Sarah Schechter and several others across Berlanti Productions and Midnight Radio. Toby Haynes is involved as an executive producer and directs the first episode. Warner Bros. Television is producing the series.

With filming now active in Atlanta, Netflix is moving forward with its live-action reboot of the classic mystery series.

This project will get attention simply because of how iconic the original show is. Changing a familiar childhood series into a live-action version always comes with risk. It could work if the tone is handled carefully, but it could also split opinions among fans. What do you think about Netflix turning Scooby-Doo into a live-action series?
