Colin Jost (43) Shares Scarlett Johansson’s (41) Exact Reaction Text After He Bought Staten Island Ferry With Pete Davidson
Colin Jost has opened up about how his wife Scarlett Johansson reacted when he told her about his unusual purchase of a decommissioned Staten Island Ferry, which he bought with Pete Davidson.
Speaking on the upcoming May 4 episode of the SmartLess podcast hosted by Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes, Jost explained how he first shared the news with his family after making the deal in 2022.
He said the ferry was bought for around $280,000 and was something he had a personal connection to, since he used to travel on it during his school years. He also said he saw it as more than just a novelty purchase, but something that could be turned into a usable space.
When it came to telling his family, Jost said his father reacted in a very typical teacher-like way. According to him, his dad asked, “Did you do your homework?” before Jost told him he had already gone ahead and bought it.
He then messaged Johansson with the update. Jost recalled texting her, “Guess what? We own a ferry now,” to which she quickly replied, “We?”
Jost said the idea behind the purchase was based on real estate thinking, explaining that a docked ferry in Manhattan could function like a large building space with multiple uses, including events and entertainment.
He also pushed back on the idea that the ferry has been a financial disaster, saying it has already been used for events and has helped bring back some of the money invested.
Jost and Davidson, along with comedy club owner Paul Italia, bought the ferry together and have since used it for different public events, including a fashion show.
Jost has previously admitted that the purchase was not a typical decision for him, describing it as one of the most unusual things he has done financially. Still, he has said the goal is to turn it into something long-term and useful rather than just a novelty project.
Pete Davidson has also spoken about the ferry, saying the group is still developing ideas for it and learning as they go, even working with engineers and maritime experts to figure out what it can become.
