Nicholas Brendon’s Cause of Death Revealed Weeks After ‘‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Star’s Passing at 54
News about a familiar face from television has resurfaced, bringing both clarity and sadness for fans who grew up watching him on screen. Weeks after his passing, more details have now been shared about what happened.
Nicholas Brendon, best known for his role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, died at the age of 54. According to a report from the Putnam County coroner’s office in New York, obtained by Page Six, the official cause of death has now been confirmed.
The report states that he died from atherosclerotic and hypertensive cardiovascular disease. It also listed pneumonia and a previous heart attack as contributing factors. The coroner noted that there was a 90% blockage in his right coronary artery, which played a major role.
At the time of his death back in March, his family shared a short statement, saying he had passed away in his sleep. They described it as natural causes, without going into further detail.
In their message, they also spoke about who he was beyond acting. “We are heartbroken to share the passing of our brother and son, Nicholas Brendon,” they said. They added that he had recently found a new passion in painting and art, and enjoyed sharing that side of himself with people close to him.
The family also addressed his personal struggles over the years. “While it’s no secret that Nicholas had struggles in the past, he was on medications and treatment… and he was optimistic about the future at the time of his passing.” They asked for privacy as they continue to process the loss.
Brendon became widely known for playing Xander Harris, one of the core characters in Buffy. His role brought humor and heart to the show, making him a fan favorite during its long run. Outside of that series, he also appeared in projects like Criminal Minds and several films over the years.
For many fans, the update brings some closure, even if it’s difficult news to hear. His work, especially during the peak of Buffy’s popularity, left a lasting impression that people still talk about today.
