Brendan Fraser Lines Up a Big Sci-Fi Project After βThe Mummy 4β
Brendan Fraser is adding another major sci-fi project to his schedule as he continues work leading up to his return in The Mummy 4. Before stepping back into his well-known role as Rick, he has signed on for a new space-themed film titled Starman.
The project is based on an original script by Josh Wakely, who previously worked on animated music-focused series like Beat Bugs and Motown Magic. Wakely will also direct the film, which is described as a science fiction story centered on a high-risk mission beyond Earth.
Fraser will play a character named Tom Adams, a tech expert who leads a mission to Mars. What begins as a bold scientific journey turns into a survival situation after things go wrong in space. The story follows his struggle to make it back while also dealing with emotional stakes tied to relationships on Earth.
Production on Starman is expected to begin this summer. The film is being developed by Grace: A Storytelling Company along with producers connected to Fraserβs recent projects, including Rental Family. David S. Goyer is attached as an executive producer, adding further experience in large-scale genre storytelling.
Even with this new project, Fraserβs schedule remains packed. He is also set to appear as Dwight D. Eisenhower in the upcoming film Pressure, which is scheduled for release in May 2026. In addition, he will star in Diamond, a drama directed by Andy Garcia that is set to premiere at Cannes and also features Dustin Hoffman and Bill Murray.
His return to the adventure franchise continues to be a major moment for fans. The Mummy helped define Fraserβs career, and he is now set to reunite with Rachel Weisz in the upcoming sequel. The release date has shifted over time, but it is now planned for October 2027.
Fraserβs current lineup shows a clear shift between blockbuster franchises and serious acting roles. He is balancing multiple genres at once, from historical drama to science fiction and action adventure.
It is interesting to see Fraser moving between big franchise films and more grounded projects at the same time. It keeps his career varied and unpredictable. What do you think about him doing both sci-fi and returning to The Mummy? Share your thoughts in the comments.
