Political dramas based on real-world figures have become increasingly popular in recent years, especially films that explore power, media influence, and the rise of controversial leaders. Many of these projects mix fiction with real historical events to tell stories that feel both personal and political.

One of the newest films in that space is The Wizard of the Kremlin, and a new clip from the movie has now been released by IGN. The scene gives viewers another look at Jude Law’s performance as a young Vladimir Putin as he begins gaining influence and support in Russia.

Directed by Olivier Assayas, The Wizard of the Kremlin is an English-language French political satire based on the 2022 novel by Giuliano da Empoli. The film follows fictional political strategist Vadim Baranov, played by Paul Dano, during the final years of the Soviet Union and the early rise of modern Russia.

Jude Law stars as Vladimir Putin, who is described in the film as a rising political figure slowly becoming the center of power. The newly released clip focuses on Putin connecting with the Russian public, showing the political image-building that becomes a major theme throughout the movie.

The cast also includes Alicia Vikander, Will Keen, Tom Sturridge, and Jeffrey Wright. The film mixes fictional characters with real historical figures and events, creating a story about politics, influence, and control during a changing period in Russian history.

Production on the movie began in 2025, with filming taking place in Riga, Latvia. The screenplay was co-written by Olivier Assayas and Emmanuel Carrère, adapting the bestselling novel into a feature film.
