Rey Finally Explains Why She Chose the Skywalker Name in New ‘Star Wars’ Story
A new “Star Wars” book is giving fans more insight into why Rey decided to take the Skywalker name at the end of “The Rise of Skywalker.”
The explanation appears in “Star Wars: The Secrets of the Jedi: The Chronicles of Luke Skywalker,” a new reference book written by Marc Sumerak and published by Insight Editions. The updated book was released on May 12 and includes fresh material connected to newer “Star Wars” movies, shows and publishing stories.
In the book, Rey reflects on her decision to carry the Skywalker name after the fall of Emperor Palpatine. She explains that it was tied to Luke Skywalker’s legacy and the fight he started against evil.
“I had to continue the fight and finish what he started. To stop Palpatine from rising again … And to proudly wear my Master’s name while doing so, in honor of his life and his sacrifice.”
Rey also says the Jedi legacy goes beyond one person and connects all those who follow the light side of the Force.
“Luke Skywalker may be gone from this plane, just like all the Jedi who came before him … but he will live forever. Because, in the end, I am all the Jedi. And maybe we all are.”
The new book serves as an updated version of the 2019 release “Star Wars: The Secrets of the Jedi.” According to the publisher’s summary, the guide explores the history of the Jedi Order through the perspective of Luke Skywalker and also includes information about characters like Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn and Ahsoka Tano.
The comments from Rey give fans one of the clearest explanations yet for why she chose the Skywalker name, a moment that sparked debate among “Star Wars” viewers after the release of “The Rise of Skywalker.”
