Sandra Hüller Addresses Whether She Would Return for a ‘Project Hail Mary’ Sequel
Sandra Hüller has commented on the possibility of returning for a sequel to Project Hail Mary, but she is not confirming anything about her future in the franchise.
The film is directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller and written by Drew Goddard, based on Andy Weir’s 2021 novel. Ryan Gosling plays the main character, Ryland Grace, a school teacher who wakes up alone on a spacecraft with no memory of how he got there. Sandra Hüller appears in a supporting role alongside James Ortiz and Lionel Boyce.
The movie had been in development since 2020, even before the novel was officially released. Drew Goddard returned to adapt the story after previously working on The Martian. Filming took place in the United Kingdom in 2024 and used a combination of real locations and large practical sets. The interior of the spacecraft, known as the Hail Mary, was built as a full physical set so that many scenes could be filmed inside a real environment rather than relying only on digital effects.
The film premiered in London on March 9, and later opened in the United States on March 20 through Amazon MGM Studios. Sony Pictures Releasing handled international distribution. After its release, the film received strong reviews from critics and audiences and went on to earn around 658 million dollars worldwide, making it the second highest-grossing film of 2026.

With the film’s success, questions have started to come up about whether a sequel could happen and whether the cast would return. Sandra Hüller was asked directly about the idea of coming back for another Project Hail Mary film.
She responded without confirming or denying any plans.
“I don’t know what’s going to happen in the future. I have fun with a lot of different things and I feel very, very lucky that I can explore these different ways of working. That’s all.”
At this point, there is no official announcement about a sequel to Project Hail Mary. Hüller’s comments leave her future in the series open, with no clear indication of whether she would return if another film is made.
