Chace Crawford Hints Fans Will Like The Deep’s Ending in ‘The Boys’ Series Finale
In the final season of The Boys, Chace Crawford says his character The Deep is heading toward an ending that brings everything “full circle.” Speaking in an interview with Collider, Crawford breaks down how the character’s long spiral of loyalty, failure, and humiliation finally catches up with him in the series finale, and why he thinks fans will be satisfied with how it all ends.
Crawford said the ending for The Deep feels like it brings everything back around to where things started. He described it as a “full circle” conclusion, especially in relation to the character’s long history in the show and the consequences he finally faces.
In the interview, he explained that The Deep has spent most of the series chasing approval, especially from Homelander. Over time, that loyalty falls apart. By Season 5, Homelander no longer has any use for him, and The Deep is left without status, protection, or respect.
Crawford said Homelander completely shuts him out in Episode 7, which becomes a turning point for the character. In that moment, The Deep tries one last time to stay relevant, but it does not work. Crawford described it as the moment he finally understands that the relationship he believed in was never real.
He said, “It’s this heartbreaking thing for The Deep.” He added that the character only realizes at the end that Homelander never cared about him at all.
As the season continues, The Deep also suffers more public humiliation. He is banned from the ocean, which Crawford said was one of the hardest moments for the character. He explained that losing access to the water feels like losing his identity completely.
He said, “Banning him from the water was probably the biggest for him. That was probably the biggest moment for The Deep.”

Crawford also talked about one of the more unusual scenes in the season, where The Deep interacts with a hammerhead shark named Xander, voiced by Samuel L. Jackson. He said the experience of filming it was strange because he was acting alone with visual effects elements.
He said, “We shot that on this dock, and I was just acting to this green tennis ball in the water.” He also said hearing Samuel L. Jackson’s voice in the final version made the scene much more memorable.
The actor also discussed a later moment where The Deep is forced to watch someone drown while he cannot go into the water to help. Instead, he is stuck shouting directions from a distance. Crawford said this moment shows how far the character has fallen and how his past choices have led to real consequences.
He explained that The Deep has spent most of his life avoiding responsibility, but now he is finally forced to deal with it. According to him, the character still sees himself as a victim even when things fall apart around him.
He said The Deep has never really faced consequences before, but now everything is catching up with him.
Crawford believes the ending of the story will satisfy viewers. He said it has been a long time coming for the character to reach this point after years of bad decisions and self-deception. He described the conclusion as something earned through everything that has happened in the series so far.
He said, “I think the fans are going to be really pleased, to be honest, and I think it was a long time coming.”
The Deep’s final arc is not about redemption, but about consequences. It shows a character who never changed in time finally reaching a point where he can no longer escape the results of his actions.
