Production has officially started on The Batman: Part II, with new details and leaked set photos giving fans an early look at the return to Gotham. According to spotters and videos shared online from Liverpool, England, filming has begun with the city once again standing in for Gotham.

Early footage shows production crews setting up camera equipment and vehicles marked with the film’s red bat logo. One of the clips also features a GCPD police car covered with snow on the windshield and bumper, suggesting a cold-weather sequence being filmed. Another video shows Robert Pattinson’s stunt double, Rick English, performing on top of a moving police car during an action scene filmed in the Birkenhead Tunnel.

The sequel is directed by Matt Reeves, who also co-wrote the script with Mattson Tomlin. Principal photography was expected to begin earlier but was delayed due to script revisions, which were completed in June 2025. The production is now moving forward with filming locations planned across Liverpool, Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, and Glasgow.

Robert Pattinson returns as Bruce Wayne / Batman, alongside familiar cast members including Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as Oswald “Penguin” Cobblepot, and Jayme Lawson as Mayor Bella Reál. Barry Keoghan is also expected to return as the Joker.

New additions to the cast include Sebastian Stan as Harvey Dent and Scarlett Johansson as Gilda Dent, with Charles Dance playing Charles Dent. Other returning and new roles include Gil Perez-Abraham as GCPD officer Martinez, along with Sebastian Koch and Brian Tyree Henry in undisclosed roles.

The Batman: Part II is scheduled to hit theaters on October 1, 2027. The story will continue exploring Gotham’s corruption and Batman’s dual life as Bruce Wayne, following the events of The Batman and The Penguin series.

The set photos and early footage suggest a grounded and gritty tone, with practical stunts and real location shooting playing a major role. While much of the plot is still under wraps, production is now clearly underway, marking the next major step in Matt Reeves’ Batman saga.
