Stephen Amell Drops First ‘Baywatch’ Reboot Teaser and Fans Are Already Talking
According to footage shared by Stephen Amell on Instagram, the new Baywatch reboot has officially revealed its first teaser, giving fans a preview of the updated lifeguard drama coming to Fox in 2027.
Amell posted the teaser online with the caption, “I dream in slow motion.” The short clip immediately brought back one of the most famous parts of the original series: the slow-motion beach run. The teaser shows Amell running along the sand in the classic red lifeguard gear while waves crash in the background. It also gives quick looks at other cast members, including Brooks Nader and Livvy Dunne, both wearing the signature red swimsuits tied closely to the franchise’s image.
The reboot is trying to bring the classic series into a modern setting while still keeping many of the things fans remember from the original show. Beach rescues, lifeguard drama, ocean action, and slow-motion running all appear to still be part of the formula.
In the new series, Amell plays Hobie Buchannon, the adult son of Mitch Buchannon, the legendary lifeguard played by David Hasselhoff in the original version of the show. That connection links the reboot directly to the older series instead of starting from scratch.
The cast also includes several younger stars alongside returning faces from the original franchise. According to IMDb and production reports, the new lineup includes Jessica Belkin, Hassie Harrison, Livvy Dunne, Brooks Nader, Noah Beck, Shay Mitchell, Luke Eisner, Ashley Moore, and Thaddeus LaGrone.
One of the biggest surprises for longtime fans is the return of Erika Eleniak, who played Shauni McClain in the early years of the original series. David Chokachi is also returning as Cody Madison, giving the reboot more direct ties to the classic show that became a worldwide television hit during the 1990s.
The original Baywatch aired from 1989 until 2001 and became one of the most recognizable television brands of its time. The series became famous not just for its beach action, but also for its cast, which included Pamela Anderson, Carmen Electra, Erika Eleniak, and David Hasselhoff. The red swimsuits and California beach setting became major pop culture symbols around the world.
The reboot appears to be leaning heavily into that nostalgia while also trying to attract younger viewers through social media personalities and newer actors. Livvy Dunne and Noah Beck both bring large online followings, while Shay Mitchell joins the cast as Trina, a former lawyer who becomes a lifeguard.
Mitchell recently spoke about filming in the famous swimsuit and described the experience as surreal. The production has also already generated attention online after set photos from Venice Beach surfaced earlier this year.
Amell himself has acknowledged the challenge of stepping into such a recognizable franchise. In a recent TikTok post, he joked that nobody could truly replace David Hasselhoff, whose role helped define the original series for an entire generation of viewers.
The new Fox reboot is currently expected to premiere in January 2027. While the full story details are still being kept secret, the first teaser makes one thing clear: the new version of Baywatch is not trying to move away from the style that made the original famous. Instead, it looks ready to embrace it fully for a new audience.
