Tom Holland and Zendaya helped reshape a scene on the set of Spider-Man: Brand New Day after deciding it just wasn’t working.

In a recent interview shared via Good Hang, Tom Holland explained how the moment unfolded during filming. He said the issue came up while they were shooting coverage for a scene with Zendaya. Holland described how he and Zendaya both felt something was off and decided to speak up rather than push through it.

According to Holland, the discussion started casually between takes. He said they checked in with each other first, then brought their concerns to the producers. Both actors agreed that the scene didn’t feel right in terms of emotion or impact. Holland explained that it wasn’t about small changes, but about the core feeling of the moment not coming through on screen.

He recalled saying, “I know we’ve been shooting for hours and I hate to tell you this, but I don’t think that this scene is working. What we’re supposed to feel, we’re not feeling it in the moment.”

After hearing the feedback, the director made a quick decision. Holland described the director as calm and open to input. Instead of forcing the scene to continue, the director reportedly told the crew to stop for the day and reset.

Holland said, “Everyone can go home and we’re gonna sit down and rewrite this scene.” The team then paused production and reworked the material before returning to reshoot it the following day. Holland added that the revised version worked much better in the final film.

He also reflected on how unusual the situation felt, especially being able to openly question a scene while working alongside Zendaya. Holland joked that it was easier to have that kind of honest conversation because of their working relationship, saying it would feel very different with someone he didn’t know as well.

The moment has gained attention because it shows how collaborative major film productions can be, even on large superhero projects like this one. Rather than sticking rigidly to the script, the cast and crew chose to pause and improve the scene together.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is an upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe film directed by Destin Daniel Cretton. It stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker / Spider-Man and Zendaya, along with Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo.

The story follows Peter Parker after the world has forgotten his identity following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Now living anonymously in New York City, he continues to act as Spider-Man while facing new threats and changes to his abilities.

The film is scheduled for release on July 31, and is part of Phase Six of the MCU.
