‘Days of Our Lives’ Star Robert Kelker-Kelly’s Cause of Death Has Been Revealed Weeks After His Passing
For soap opera fans, Bo Brady was never just another character. He was half of one of daytime’s great love stories, and the actor who played him in the early 1990s left a lasting mark on the genre. Now, nearly four weeks after Robert Kelker-Kelly died, his cause of death has finally been made public.
Kelker-Kelly died on October 3, 2026, at his home in Missouri. He was 62. In the days after his death, details emerged about the circumstances, but an official cause was missing, and the medical examiner’s office had said its normal timeline for death certification is about 12 weeks.
That wait ended this week. According to reports that surfaced on Thursday, October 29, the Office of the Regional Medical Examiner in St. Charles, Missouri, determined that Kelker-Kelly died of arteriosclerotic heart disease, which is commonly known as coronary artery disease. His manner of death was ruled natural.
A police report obtained by the press fills in the timeline. After landing at Spirit of St. Louis Airport, Kelker-Kelly reportedly complained of pain in his chest and left arm. During the drive home, he asked the person with him to pull over so he could vomit.
Once at the family’s Missouri residence, he changed his clothes and got into bed. Police were later called about an unconscious man who was not breathing, and CPR was already in progress when dispatchers took the call. Paramedics tried lifesaving measures, but he was pronounced dead at 9:09 p.m.
The Charles County Medical Examiner’s office reportedly released his body without requesting further investigation. The medical examiner has since confirmed the cause, bringing a degree of closure to a sudden and shocking loss.
Away from the cameras, Kelker-Kelly worked as a professional pilot. That detail has resonated with fans, given that his final hours began at an airport. It also underscores how varied his life was beyond his television work.
He was born on April 18, 1964, in Wichita, Kansas, and briefly attended the University of Kansas before leaving to pursue acting full-time. His career would go on to span several of daytime television’s best-known shows.
Kelker-Kelly started in soaps in 1987 on ‘Another World,’ where he played Sam Fowler. He appeared in more than 400 episodes across two stints, from 1987 to 1990 and again from 1996 to 1998.
In 1992, he joined ‘Days of Our Lives’ as Bo Brady, taking over the role from Peter Reckell. He played the character for three years, acting opposite Kristian Alfonso as Hope and Lisa Rinna as Billie Reed. Reckell returned to the part in 1995.
His time on the show was a success. Kelker-Kelly won the Soap Opera Digest Award for outstanding lead actor in 1994. A year later, he and Rinna took home the award for hottest soap couple for their roles as Bo and Billie.
Fans have been sharing their memories of the Bo and Hope love story since news of his death broke. Many said they grew up watching the pair, and the outpouring has been heartfelt. The show itself paid tribute with a short message on Instagram wishing him rest in peace.
After ‘Days of Our Lives,’ Kelker-Kelly became known to a new audience as Stavros Cassadine on ‘General Hospital.’ He played the character beginning in 2001 and returned for additional appearances in 2013 and 2014. His credits also include ‘Port Charles’ and ‘Touched by an Angel,’ as well as the TV movie ‘Winter Heat.’
Kelker-Kelly was married twice. He wed actress Linda Rattner in 1988, and they divorced in 1992. In 1997, he married his ‘Days of Our Lives’ co-star Miriam Parrish, and the pair separated in 2013. He is survived by his daughter, Amelia Rose Kelly.
For many viewers, he will always be Bo Brady, the dark-haired hero who helped define a golden era of daytime romance. His death at 62 leaves a gap in the soap community, and the confirmation of its cause offers some clarity to fans and loved ones.
