HBO’s ‘Harry Potter’ Series Opens Casting for Highly Sought-After Role in Eagerly Anticipated TV Adaptation
The casting process for HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter television series is continuing to expand as Season 2 development moves forward. According to a report from Deadline, casting directors Lucy Bevan and Emily Brockmann are now searching for a young actor to play Colin Creevey, a well-known Hogwarts student from the original book series.
The information comes from Deadline, which reports that auditions are already underway and some actors have reached recall stages in the casting process. HBO has not commented on the report.
Colin Creevey is a Gryffindor student who first appears in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. He is known for his enthusiastic personality and his strong admiration for Harry Potter. In the books by J.K. Rowling, Colin is often seen carrying a camera and taking photos around Hogwarts, treating his time at the school like a dream come true. He becomes a recurring character throughout the series and later takes part in major events, including the resistance against Dolores Umbridge and the Battle of Hogwarts.
The character was previously played by actor Hugh Mitchell in the 2002 film Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, but he did not appear in the later movies. The upcoming HBO series is expected to adapt all seven books in full, which means characters like Colin Creevey are likely to have a more developed role than in the original films.
This casting update comes shortly after reports that Ginny Weasley is also being recast for Season 2. According to Deadline, the previous actress Gracie Cochrane has stepped away from the role. Her family issued a statement saying, “Her time as part of the Harry Potter world has been truly wonderful, and she is deeply grateful to Lucy Bevan and the entire production team for creating such an unforgettable experience.”
The series is being developed as a long-form adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s books, with Francesca Gardiner serving as showrunner and executive producer. Mark Mylod is also attached as executive producer and director on multiple episodes. The production is backed by HBO in collaboration with Brontë Film and TV and Warner Bros. Television, with additional executive producers including J.K. Rowling, Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, and David Heyman.
Filming for Season 2 is expected to begin in the United Kingdom later this year, according to the same report. The series will stream on HBO Max and is part of HBO’s broader effort to expand the Wizarding World for television.
While HBO has not confirmed the Colin Creevey casting search, the report suggests that the show is continuing to build out Hogwarts characters in greater detail as it moves deeper into the book storyline.
