It has been more than two weeks since the series finale of The Boys aired, and the conversation around it is still active. Fans continue to debate what happened in the final episode, while the show’s creator Eric Kripke has now shared his thoughts in an interview with TVLine.

Kripke said he has been following online reactions, even if he knows he probably should not. He explained that he sees both positive and negative comments, and he understands the strong reactions from viewers.

In his interview with TVLine, Kripke said, “I’m not healthy in that I’m like, ‘Oh, I never look.’ I see it all. Obviously there are a lot of unhappy people online, but there are two things I would say: First, I’m just glad people are passionate, legitimately. My job is to make people passionate about the work I put out. If they’re arguing about it and hating it and fighting, that’s all passion, man. You’re watching, and that’s all good. My job is to get an emotional reaction, not necessarily to dictate what that emotional reaction is.”

He also talked about how online reactions can feel bigger than they really are. According to Kripke, the loudest voices online do not always represent the majority of viewers.

He said, “The second thing I would say is a lesson I’ve learned a thousand times over: the online world is not the real world. We have way north of 60 million viewers, so that makes the online storm, which feels very all-encompassing, actually a fraction of a single percentage point. Everyone’s entitled to their opinion, of course, and I’m sorry if I disappointed you, but it was the story I wanted to tell. You just have to put it into perspective of it being a reasonably small, vocal audience when the vast majority seem to be happily tuning in.”

The finale itself became a major talking point among fans. The episode included several major character deaths and big emotional moments that sparked strong reactions online. Some viewers were shocked by the endings of key characters, while others debated the choices made for the final story arcs.

Kripke also spoke about the writing process for the final season. He said that the ending was planned early in production and that the writers did not make major changes close to the finale. According to Kripke, the structure of the final episode was already decided during the first weeks of work on the season.

He explained to TVLine that the writers’ room focused more on execution than changing story direction. He said, “We had figured out who was going to live and die and when it was all going to happen. So by the time it came to actually writing and figuring out the episode, we basically had everything already set.”

Kripke added that one of the hardest parts was balancing the final episode so that each major character had a moment. He said the team wanted to make sure every main character got a clear final scene or emotional beat before the story ended.

He said, “The hardest part was structuring the script so that, as we’re heading into the inner sanctum of the Oval Office, every character gets a moment to be cool. They all deserve a moment to be cool.”

With the series now finished, Kripke has made it clear that he stands by the ending even with divided fan reactions. He has acknowledged the disappointment from some viewers but also emphasized that the story was always meant to end the way it did.

The discussion around The Boys finale continues online, with fans still sharing opinions and debating what the ending means for the characters and the story as a whole.
