Netflix Reveals First Look at Live-Action ‘Scooby-Doo’ as New Teaser Confirms Release Window
Netflix has officially introduced the newest star of the Scooby-Doo franchise, and fans are finally getting their first look at him. The streaming giant has released a teaser for its upcoming live-action series Scooby-Doo: Origins, giving viewers a glimpse of the famous mystery-solving dog ahead of the show’s 2027 premiere.
The series is currently being filmed in Atlanta, Georgia. Along with confirming the release window, the streamer also shared the first image of Scooby-Doo and a short teaser video that quickly got fans talking online.
The teaser starts from the perspective of a dog running across the ground. Viewers hear paws hitting the dirt along with a few excited barks before the camera reveals Scooby-Doo himself. The lovable Great Dane then jumps into the arms of Shaggy, played by Tanner Hagen. The clip ends with one final bark from Scooby, giving fans a small but memorable introduction to the character.
What makes this project especially notable is that it marks the first time Scooby-Doo will be portrayed as a real dog in a live-action television series. While the franchise has featured animated versions of the character for decades, this new adaptation takes a different approach.
Scooby-Doo: Origins tells a new version of the classic mystery-solving story. The series follows Shaggy and Daphne during their final summer at camp. Their lives take an unexpected turn when they encounter a lost Great Dane puppy that may have witnessed a mysterious murder with possible supernatural connections.
As they begin investigating the strange case, they are joined by Velma, played by Mckenna Grace, and Freddy, portrayed by Maxwell Jenkins. Together, the group finds itself pulled into a mystery that becomes increasingly dangerous. As they search for answers, they uncover secrets that could change their lives forever.
Netflix describes the series as a modern reimagining of the beloved franchise. While it keeps the familiar characters that fans know, the story introduces a darker mystery and explores how the famous team first came together.
The cast also includes Paul Walter Hauser in a role that has not yet been revealed. Details about his character remain under wraps, adding another layer of mystery to the project.
The Scooby-Doo franchise has a long history that stretches back more than 50 years. Created by Joe Ruby and Ken Spears, the original animated series premiered in 1969. Over the decades, Scooby-Doo became one of the most recognizable characters in popular culture, leading to multiple television shows, movies, animated specials, and theatrical releases.
This new Netflix series is being led by showrunners Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, who also serve as writers and executive producers. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, Adrienne Erickson, and director Toby Haynes are also part of the production team. Warner Bros. Television is producing the series.
With the first teaser now released and production underway, anticipation is already growing. Fans may have to wait until 2027 to see the full series, but Netflix’s first look suggests that a new chapter in the Scooby-Doo story is on the way.
