Sydney Sweeney has opened up about the final season of Euphoria and how her character Cassie’s story pushed into new and controversial territory, including an OnlyFans storyline that became one of the most talked-about parts of the show’s ending.

The comments come from a recent interview with Vanity Fair. In the interview, Sweeney reflected on how the cast filmed Season 3 and how much of the story was kept separate between actors. She explained that even during production, they often had no full picture of the season.

She said, “What was interesting was we didn’t get to see each other’s storylines. When we were given the script, we were only given our scenes.” Sweeney added that this made the experience confusing but also interesting, because the actors were constantly trying to understand the full story as it came together.

Much of the discussion focused on Cassie Howard, played by Sweeney, and how her arc evolved in the final season. Cassie ends the series in a chaotic place, dealing with loss, personal breakdowns, and a public life shaped by adult content and online attention through an OnlyFans-style platform inside the story.

Sweeney explained that Cassie’s choices were always tied to her need for validation. She said Cassie struggles to understand herself without outside attention and approval. According to Sweeney, this emotional core helped guide how she approached the more extreme parts of the storyline.

She said, “From the very beginning, you can see that Cassie has this need to be loved. She has a need to be validated by other people.” She added that the character’s direction in Season 3 made sense to her because of that emotional foundation.

The interview also covered how far the show went with Cassie’s adult-themed content storyline. Sweeney confirmed that the scripts included scenes involving OnlyFans-style activity, and that she had discussions with creator Sam Levinson about how to handle them. She said she always approached the role as an actor playing a character, not as herself, and focused on staying true to Cassie’s emotional journey.

She explained, “Do I agree with all of Cassie’s decisions? Would I personally make these choices? No, of course not. But I’m an actor and that’s my job.”

Cassie’s storyline in Season 3 includes her turning her public image into a business built around online attention. The show also pushes her into more surreal and extreme storytelling, including scenes that reflect how far her emotional state has broken down over time.

Sweeney also talked about a cut scene involving a pole dancing sequence, which was filmed but not included in the final version. She said it was part of Cassie exploring a more chaotic and impulsive phase of her life, but it was ultimately removed from the episode. She described it as something she enjoyed filming but understood why it did not make the final cut.

Beyond the storyline itself, Sweeney also addressed public reaction to her role and the way audiences often separate the character from the actor. She said that many people misunderstand who she is because of the roles she plays on screen.

She said, “Everybody thinks they have me figured out, but they have no clue who I actually am.”

The interview shows how Sweeney views Cassie’s final arc as both extreme and emotionally grounded. It also highlights how the Euphoria Season 3 storyline pushed boundaries while staying focused on the character’s need for love, attention, and identity in a world shaped by social media and public exposure.
