Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink & Jacob Batalon Gear Up for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Press Tour
The ‘Spider-Man’ franchise has always been about more than just the superhero swinging between skyscrapers. Since Tom Holland made his debut as Peter Parker in the MCU, the films have carried a specific electricity rooted in their cast chemistry, and that energy has rarely been more visible than it is right now. With one of the most anticipated Marvel releases of the year just weeks away, the promotional machine for ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is officially in full swing.
The upcoming sequel picks up directly from the events of ‘No Way Home’, in which Zendaya’s Michelle Jones-Watson finds herself with a new life because she no longer has any memory of Peter Parker, the man who chose to erase himself from the world to save the people he loved. It is a heartbreaking and fascinating foundation for a new chapter, and the press tour has now given fans their first real look at the team bringing it to life on screen.
On June 10, the official Marvel Updates social account posted a photo of Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, and Jacob Batalon together for the ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ press tour, and the internet responded with exactly the kind of excitement the image deserved.
The film centers on Peter Parker’s inner conflict about leaving his human identity behind and fully embracing his role as Spider-Man, a theme that producer Amy Pascal described as the heart of the story. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, best known for ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’, the film replaces Jon Watts, who helmed Holland’s previous Spider-Man trilogy. The creative handover feels purposeful given how much the character’s circumstances have changed.
The official synopsis describes a Peter Parker who is now in his early twenties, living entirely alone four years after the events of ‘No Way Home’, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves, and devoted entirely to protecting his city as a full-time Spider-Man. At Deadline’s Contenders Television event, Cretton celebrated the response the film received in test screenings and said it has “all the heart and humor that you want” from an MCU Spider-Man film.
Jon Bernthal will make his MCU movie debut as the Punisher, Frank Castle, and may serve as Peter’s unexpected ally. Marvin Jones III will play Tombstone, one of New York’s most notorious crime bosses in Marvel lore, with Jones having previously voiced the character in ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’. Michael Mando also returns as Mac Gargan, better known as Scorpion, alongside Mark Ruffalo appearing as Bruce Banner. It is a remarkable ensemble for what has been billed as a more grounded, street-level story compared to the multiverse spectacle of its predecessor.
No element of ‘Brand New Day’ has generated more fan conversation than the presence of Sadie Sink, whose character Marvel has refused to officially confirm. Fans initially linked her to Mary Jane Watson, Gwen Stacy, and Firestar, but the loudest and most persistent theory is that she is playing Jean Grey. Set photos from late 2025 showed Sink with red hair in the film, and the ‘Brand New Day’ trailer portrays her character using psychic powers, adding significant weight to the mutant theory.
Industry insider Jeff Sneider was among the first to report that Sink is, in fact, playing the iconic mutant, and early test screening sources have called Sadie “the best part of Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” If confirmed, it would represent one of the most significant casting reveals in MCU history, introducing Jean Grey through a Spider-Man movie ahead of the studio’s long-anticipated X-Men reboot. The timing also aligns with Marvel’s broader plans, as ‘Brand New Day’ opens just months before ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, which is bringing back several Fox-era X-Men actors, suggesting a deliberate bridge between eras.
With the press tour now generating its own wave of buzz alongside all the speculation and excitement already surrounding the film, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ is shaping up to be one of the defining cinematic events of the summer when it arrives in theaters on July 31.
Let us know in the comments whether you think Sadie Sink is playing Jean Grey and what you are most looking forward to in ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’.
