Colin Farrell Confirms Penguin’s Return in ‘The Batman Part II’ — But There’s a Catch That Changes Everything
Colin Farrell has shared a new update about his return as Oz Cobb, also known as the Penguin, in The Batman Part II. The actor spoke about the film in a recent interview with Collider while promoting his Apple TV series Sugar.
Farrell confirmed that production on the sequel is about to begin very soon. He said that the cast and crew are getting ready to return to Gotham, but his own part will come a little later in the schedule. He explained that filming is starting first for others, while he will join a few weeks after.
He said, “They start, I think, in a week.” He also joked that he is not in a position to invite people to visit the set, adding a light moment during the interview.
Farrell spoke warmly about the project and the creative team behind it. He praised director Matt Reeves and said the script for the sequel is very strong. He described Reeves as someone who puts a lot of care into the story and the world of Gotham.
He said, “The script, I’ve said before, and you know, I said it to you, it’s extraordinary. It really is. Matt is just so brilliant, and he just cares so deeply about the stories he tells. I will go fly to London in four or five weeks. I haven’t got much to do on it, but I’ll go for four or five weeks. I’ll be there for a few weeks. I’m so excited to see it as a fan.”
His comments suggest that Penguin will still appear in the sequel, but maybe not as a main focus this time. That makes sense because the character already had a big spotlight in the spin-off series The Penguin, where his rise in Gotham’s criminal world was explored in detail. Because of that, The Batman Part II may use him in a smaller but still important role.
The Batman Part II continues the story that started in Matt Reeves’ 2022 film The Batman, which starred Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayne. That film built a darker version of Gotham City and left many story threads open for future movies.
Robert Pattinson is set to return as Batman. He recently mentioned that the sequel will include a long filming schedule, saying there will be “11 weeks of night shoots,” showing how much of the movie will take place in Gotham’s dark and nighttime setting.

The cast is also expected to include returning actors like Jeffrey Wright as James Gordon and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth. New names have also been mentioned in connection with the project, adding more characters from Gotham’s world.
The Batman Part II is scheduled for release on October 1, 2027. The film is directed by Matt Reeves, who also co-wrote the script with Mattson Tomlin.
For now, fans will have to wait a bit longer, but Farrell’s update confirms that the return to Gotham is finally close, and filming is about to begin.
