The Sweet ‘Supergirl’ Moment Between Milly Alcock and David Corenswet That Has Fans Already Emotional
There is something uniquely compelling about watching two actors share a genuine moment of warmth on a superhero set, stripped of costumes and CGI, just two people in a snowy landscape giving each other a hug.
That is exactly what new photos from the set of ‘Supergirl’ have delivered, and the internet has responded predictably, with a wave of affection that speaks to just how invested audiences already are in this new generation of DC heroes.
The images, circulating widely on social media, show Milly Alcock and David Corenswet sharing a quiet, seemingly candid embrace between takes on what appears to be a wintry outdoor location. There is no spandex in sight, no capes, no visual effects. Just two people who have quickly become the faces of a rebooted DC universe, standing together on a snow-covered set, visibly at ease with each other.
The context behind these images makes them even more meaningful. A newly released featurette for ‘Supergirl’ confirmed that Corenswet’s scenes opposite Alcock were shot on the very first day of production, establishing the tone for everything that followed.
Director Craig Gillespie made the deliberate choice to open filming with the two Kryptonian cousins sharing the screen, a decision that clearly left its mark on how the film feels. The snowy setting in the new photos lines up directly with what Alcock had already let slip about one of the most demanding sequences in the entire movie.
Back in December, Alcock gave away far more than probably intended during a press conference attended by GamesRadar+. Asked about the toughest scene she filmed for ‘Supergirl’, she said: “Oh my god, it was… It was with Superman. And I wasn’t in the suit, and I was speaking… A different language. A different language. Yeah, that day was really hard, it was, like, 2 degrees. He jumped right in the deep end. Yeah, that was a hard day. The whole scene was in Kryptonian. The whole scene was, yeah… Yeah, Kryptonian.”
That admission confirmed two things that fans had been hoping for but could not yet verify. Superman does appear in ‘Supergirl’, and his role is substantial enough to qualify as one of the most challenging sequences Alcock had to navigate across the entire shoot.
A clip released ahead of the film’s June 26 theatrical debut has since revealed the scene in question, showing the moment Kara Zor-El first arrives on Earth, carrying a young Krypto and not speaking a word of English, while an excited Superman greets her but finds himself at a loss because he never learned the language of their home planet. The combination of harsh conditions, an invented language, and a pivotal emotional beat makes it one of the more remarkable sequences either of them has had to execute.
What makes the warmth between Alcock and Corenswet feel so resonant is how quickly their on-screen chemistry became a talking point after the premiere of ‘Superman’ in summer 2025.
Alcock’s Supergirl made her DCU debut at the end of that film, drunkenly dropping into Kal-El’s Fortress of Solitude and fussing over Krypto the Superdog before making a swift exit. Even in that brief cameo, the dynamic between the two characters crackled with potential. The idea of a Supergirl who is rougher around the edges, less polished than her celebrated cousin, was immediately intriguing.
James Gunn, DC Studios co-chief and director of ‘Superman’, had said that this version of Kara will be “much more hardcore,” because she grew up watching the destruction of Krypton before arriving on Earth, making her a fundamentally different kind of hero than the one audiences are used to seeing.
The film, directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira, draws from Tom King and Bilquis Evely’s acclaimed comic run, with a cast that also includes Matthias Schoenaerts as the lead villain Krem of the Yellow Hills, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, and Jason Momoa as Lobo, with a production budget of $170 million.
With ‘Supergirl’ arriving in theaters on June 26, the cosy set photos of Alcock and Corenswet have given fans something warm to hold onto as they count down to what promises to be one of the most emotionally charged superhero films in recent memory.
