After ‘Stranger Things’ Wrapped, Millie Bobby Brown Says She Called the Cast to Heal Old Tensions
Millie Bobby Brown has opened up about how difficult life became after Stranger Things came to an end, revealing that she went through a period of sadness and even worried about losing touch with her castmates.
Speaking during a live recording of the Happy Sad Confused podcast at 92NY, Brown reflected on what happened after filming wrapped on the hit Netflix series that had been a huge part of her life for more than a decade.
According to the interview, the actress said she struggled emotionally once the show was over. While many fans focused on the ending of her character Eleven, Brown admitted that saying goodbye to the series was much harder than she expected.
“I went into a little bit of a slight, slight depression,” she said. “It was very hard for me. I would not have expected that coming off of the show. I’m a very happy-go-lucky person.”
Brown explained that she spent much of January reaching out to her Stranger Things co-stars. After working together for 10 years, she wanted to make sure there were no bad feelings left between anyone and that their friendships would continue even after the cameras stopped rolling.
“They probably thought I was crazy,” she joked. “I was like, ‘We’re still friends, right? Like, you’re not gonna stop talking to me anymore?’ I was like, ‘I’m sorry if I ever upset you,’ and was just trying to mend anything.”
The actress said she felt a strong connection to the cast because they had grown up together. She started the show when she was only 10 years old, and many of her most important life experiences happened alongside her co-stars.
“It’s been 10 years, and I really want to be friends. You’re my sibling,” she recalled telling them. Brown also shared an emotional memory from that period. She said she was sitting on a beach one day when the reality of the show’s ending finally hit her. “I just sat there crying. It was a very hard time for me,” she said.
The actress believes most people cannot fully understand what the experience was like because Stranger Things shaped such a large part of her childhood and teenage years.
“I started the show when I was 10, and this character was me, and these people were in my life more than my own family,” Brown explained. “I saw these people more than going home and eating dinner with my family.”

She added that leaving Eleven behind was one of the hardest parts of the experience. “Saying goodbye to that after 10 years was a very, very emotional thing, and I’m going to miss Eleven more than anything.”
During the same conversation, Brown was also asked about the fate of Eleven following the Stranger Things finale. According to Brown, even she is not allowed to reveal the answer. She said the Duffer Brothers, who created the show, reminded her not to tell anyone what really happened.
“Do not tell anyone. Because we made it a secret kind of pledge,” Brown said they told her. While fans continue to debate whether Eleven survived, Brown made it clear that she remains hopeful.
“All people say now is, ‘Do you believe?’ And of course I believe. I have to believe, honestly — otherwise January will come around again.”
For Brown, the biggest challenge was never the mystery surrounding Eleven. It was learning how to move on from a chapter of her life that lasted 10 years and saying goodbye to the people who became her second family.
