Amy Adams may be one of Hollywood’s most accomplished actresses, but even she admits that stepping onto the set of a Star Wars movie left her completely overwhelmed.

The actress recently appeared on the SmartLess podcast, where she opened up about her experience filming Star Wars: Starfighter, the upcoming movie directed by Shawn Levy. According to Adams, her excitement as a lifelong fan of the franchise made it surprisingly difficult to focus on her work during her first day on set.

Adams revealed that she was so nervous that she temporarily forgot how to perform.

“I was so nervous the first day of working, like I forgot how to act. I’m sure Shawn Levy’s like, ‘Amy, are you OK?? And I’m like, ‘No, I’m just not OK!’” she said during the interview.

The actress explained that her love for Star Wars goes back to childhood, which made the experience feel even more surreal. While she is used to working on major productions, joining one of the biggest franchises in entertainment was a different challenge altogether.

“I’m on a Star Wars set and I grew up on this. I have to now get out of my like dorky fangirl place and go into professional actress (mode), and combining the two was really hard,” Adams added.

Although she was careful not to reveal any plot details, Adams spoke positively about the production and the atmosphere on set. She described the experience as exciting and said she enjoyed seeing the detailed sets and practical work being created behind the scenes.

She also praised the film’s young star, Flynn Gray, calling him “great.” Adams noted that visiting the creature workshop was one of the highlights of filming, giving her a chance to see firsthand how the world of Star Wars is being brought to life.

Star Wars: Starfighter is one of Lucasfilm’s most anticipated upcoming projects. The film is directed by Shawn Levy, known for Deadpool & Wolverine, Free Guy, and Stranger Things. According to information released by Lucasfilm, the story takes place five years after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

The movie will focus on a father-and-son story led by Ryan Gosling and Flynn Gray. While many details remain secret, Lucasfilm has confirmed that the project will introduce mostly new characters rather than continuing the stories of the Skywalker Saga.

Adams is part of a star-studded cast that also includes Ryan Gosling, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman and Daniel Ings. Her role has not yet been officially revealed.

The project also reunites Adams with Levy. The pair previously worked together on Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, while Levy also served as a producer on Arrival, one of Adams’ most acclaimed films.

Star Wars: Starfighter has already completed filming after production wrapped in late 2025. Shooting took place in the United Kingdom as well as several international locations, including parts of Italy.

For now, Lucasfilm is keeping most story details under wraps, but Adams’ comments offer a glimpse into just how special the experience has been for those involved. Even after decades in the industry and multiple Oscar nominations, the actress discovered that entering the Star Wars universe can still leave someone feeling like an excited fan.

Star Wars: Starfighter is scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 28, 2027.
